Race Reviews For Saturday, June 29, 2013

1 First Race Entries
Picks: 3-6-2-1
H Horse Comment
1 DÉJÀ VU TOO Made a mistake in last week’s leg. Prior efforts were quite solid and she typically shows speed. First of several contenders.
1A DUOLOTTACHEATIN Has been disappointing since being the beaten favorite in her first start of the year. Needs to rebound to win this.
2 HERE’S JOHNNY Continues to race quite well and does own a win in this series. Has exchanged wins with Lauderdale. Prime contender.
3 RAVEN VICTORY Only made one appearance in this series and was a dominant winner. Has made breaks on smaller tracks. The pick.
4 ZOLI Seems to be moving in the right direction, but still does now own a win in his career. Could be a sneaky exotics candidate at a price.
5 LADY DYNAMITE Looks like the longshot of this group as she has been a cut below the best of these throughout the series.
6 LAUDERDALE Continues to race very well and he looks like the sharpest horse in the race. Seems difficult to get him out of the exacta.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 1-4-3-5
H Horse Comment
1 LUCAN HANOVER Has been racing well in this series but he will have to turn the tables on Giggity in here. Still looms a logical contender.
2 ALWAYS THERE Sporting just a 1 for 16 record and has been able to earn just minor awards so far in this series. Expect the same.
3 LATE NIGHT JOKE Big effort last time to just miss but he has still won 3 of his last 5 starts. Looms another logical win candidate.
4 IMA GIGGITY FOOL He has really raced himself into shape recently and broke through with a lifetime best effort. He can win this as well.
5 ROCKS N BONDS Earned a sharp victory at Yonkers this week, but he wasn’t able to accomplish the same in this series. Needs more.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 3-4-6-7
H Horse Comment
1 ART’S JIMMY RAY Has not been racing particularly well in his last pair of starts, but his prior efforts were quite good. Needs to rebound.
2 DR ALFONSO His recent form has been lacking and he has been long odds in all of his recent tries too. Needs improvement.
3 MAMBO ITALIANO He has won here before and this is the right level for him too. He seems to be the sharpest of all of these. One to beat.
4 CULLENS BLUE JEAN He is coming off a nice win as well, but I think Mambo Italiano is a better horse. Still, this is a top contender.
5 BLADE RUNNER Not sure what has happened to his form in his last three starts. Needs to regain his old form. Look for improvement.
6 IN KENNY’S HONOR Picks up checks consistently at this level but he seldom wins. I will use him on the bottom of my exotics.
7 COMICAL STAR A Coming off a substantial layoff, but is coming off a decent enough qualifier. I wouldn’t be shocked if he hit the board.
8 ALBION Form and qualifier just don’t seem to stack up well in this event. I need to see some improvement before I can consider.
9 WHATS WHAT HANOVER Earned a check last time at this level but he will need to step things up if he were to win this event.
10 WON’TBEFOOLEDAGAIN Showed sped last time before faltering and now will have to overcome post 10 as well. A fringe player.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 6-1-2-3
H Horse Comment
1 IN THE CLEAR This $50,000 Harrisburg yearling looks like he could be a good one. Impressive in the morning. Expect more of the same.
2 WESTERN VINTAGE Just a $12,000 Harrisburg yearling, but that 26.3 final quarter looks awfully good. Needs to behave behind the gate.
3 SUITS Homebred has a lot of seasoning to him and I like the progress he is showing. He has gone faster than any of these so far.
4 SHARK LEAP HANOVER Just a $10,000 Harrisburg yearling and he has been raced rather conservatively in the morning. More in tank.
5 NUBBLE LIGHT Just the one baby race for this Homebred and it was decent. Hard to know if he will be able to pace in 1:53 just yet.
6 SWEET ROCK $65,000 Harrisburg yearling has looked the part so far and seems to have plenty of speed as well. Looms a major player.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 8-4-2-5
H Horse Comment
1 BOXED CHOCOLATES Good progress being shown by this $11,000 Lexington-Select yearling. Draws inside. Tows along for share.
2 CUT A DEAL Good looking $25,000 Harrisburg yearling as she has been racing well so far. Looms a major contender in the Sire Stakes.
3 NICE ROCKS On paper this Homebred put forth a nice win last out, but he will need to be much faster in here. Still, he has promise.
4 SURFSIDE SEXY Those a pair of very promising morning efforts by this $35,000 Harrisburg yearling. From a family of winners as well.
5 ROCKINGCAM PARK Nothing wrong with a $7,500 Harrisburg yearling going in 1:55.2 already. I think this filly will prove to be a bargain.
6 ROSIE DE VIEW I think Lundell is bringing this filly along slowly, but this $60,000 Lexington-Select yearling has promise for sure.
7 WIKEDWITCHOTHEWEST Homebred is yet to show the kind of mile that will make him a contender in here. Will be watching for now.
8 BOLT OF THUNDER This Homebred looks like the race favorite off a very impressive win with a 26.3 final quarter. The one to beat.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 5-6-8-9
H Horse Comment
1 THE BRUISER Hard to get a gauge on a horse exiting an Open event into this nw4. Catches a very salty group here though. Tough call.
2 ROCK ICON Nice win at that nw2 level last time out, but this is going to be substantially more difficult. Will need to step it up even more.
3 GOLDEN GUN Came off a nice win at Harrington, but this race is going to be tougher than those events in Delaware. Needs A+ effort.
4 SEEK THE DRAGON Racing pretty well for the most part but is facing a tougher group than he has been up against. A fringe player here.
5 RESISTANCE FUTILE Could be prepping for a start in The Meadowlands Pace Eliminations. Connections must be looking for a big effort.
6 ROCKY MOUNTAIN GUY Last couple of starts have been pretty good and he seems to be hitting his best stride. Gets a real test tonight.
7 TERROR HIGH Must have needed that last start off the one month freshening. Has won 6 times this year, so there is some talent here.
8 MOONLITEONTHEBEACH Another that could be prepping for a Meadowlands Pace start. Ditto the feelings of Resistance Futile.
9 HOLY CHIP He has done a good job paying the bills this year and continues to race well. Like others, he is facing a tougher group now.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 8-7-9-5
H Horse Comment
1 BOLERO ANDREW That race two back was extremely tough and he showed last week he is still sharp. Moves up the ladder once again.
2 TWINCREEKS JESSE Coming off a nice win, but he too is facing a tougher group this time around. Will need even more this time.
3 SPECIAL T ROCKS Just not a typical Special T Rocks mile last week. He should be better than that this time and the price will be better.
4 ALED HANOVER This guy has been pretty good since shipping East and this was Carlson’s choice of four. Gets a test for class now.
5 MCCLELLAND His last two starts have not been very effective, but we all know he can jump up with a big mile anytime. Do not dismiss.
6 ARTSTANDING He is on quite a roll right now, but this group is much better than a $25,000 Claimer. Playing against the four-peat.
7 LETTHEROCKBEGIN That was a very impressive mile last time and he is still very sharp. I mark him as the one to beat in a tough race.
8 VOICE OF TRUTH A little surprised this is not where Carlson landed, but he might be choosing Burke and not the horse. Another player.
9 PANESTHETIC Never got in the race two starts nack and last week he has a brutal trip against a good field. He can bounce back here.
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 8-6-3-7
H Horse Comment
1 BOBJACK’S ANGLE A Picked up checks throughout the Caramore, but he faces horses that were beating him here. Needs very best.
2 THANKS FOR STOPPIN That was the 2nd consolation last week, thus an easier spot. A decent effort there and is an exotics possibility.
3 BLUE CLAW That wasn’t the kind of trip that Blue Claw is going to win with. He moves inside and has a right to be better this time around.
4 DIGGERS REST N Out-raced his odds in the 1st consolation last time out. Can he build off that effort? He certainly will offer a square price.
5 TYLER HANOVER He too, out-raced his odds last week. But his lone win came against a softer bunch and I think he is up against it here.
6 ROCKNROLL JEWEL Faced better last time and raced well. Previous two tries here were respectable and he is one of the prime players.
7 SIR ZIGGY’S Z TAM Always needs the right setup, which he got last time. Faces a better bunch, but certainly cannot be dismissed now.
8 HE’S A BEACHBOY Won the 1st consolation, so that should make him a prime contender here. I think we will see speed once again.
9 KAUFMAN HANOVER Won the 2nd consolation, but again, that means he was facing lesser last time. Not sold on a repeat in here.
10 GAMBLER’S TALE He has the speed to overcome the draw, if Lewis wants to use it. Has been facing better as well. Tricky call now.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 6-1-9-4
H Horse Comment
1 ROCKAHOLIC Tough trip last time and I respect the effort he put forth. This group might be a touch stronger on paper. Using a bit.
2 HE’S SHORE TAN Total wild card in here as he is coming off a nice win but against far lesser in Illinois. I am likely to watch this time.
3 HIGHLAND TERRIFIC That was a fairly strong qualifier and he has won here before. Manzi’s choice might offer a square price in here.
4 LETS ROCK TOGETHER Rallied well last time out and he might be responding to the addition of Lasix now. There are angles I like here.
5 WORLD CUP CULLEN Aggressive steer last time, which did not work. Prior effort was strong but against lesser. He will need even more.
6 STALLONE BLUE CHIP Qualified behind a star in Heston Blue Chip, so it is tough to gauge that effort. Note the addition of Lasix here.
7 MUSCLE BEACHBOY I like the 26.3 final quarter, be he got down to ¾’s in only 1:29, so he had to come home that quickly. Watch one.
8 ONLY THE LONELY Three consecutive decent efforts, but he has been lacking that real knockout punch. I will use him accordingly.
9 SOUTHWIND TERROR Dropping out of a tough race, won by a horse with a bright future in Roar. Looms the favorite off that mile.
10 THRU N THRU Raced well last time but against a softer group. He will need to be even better if he were to get a share of this.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 8-6-10-7
H Horse Comment
1 MR COOLIE Recent form has been just fair and despite the move down in class, it will take something more from him to win this.
2 BLUE STRIKE Not a bad try in the Caramore Final, just had a little too much to do. Loses Manzi though, but I will toss on some tickets.
3 CHEYENNE REIDER Stepping up off a narrow loss against a pretty soft group. Contention looks pretty deep in here, so he is a longshot.
4 FREDDY DAY HANOVER Back to back decent tries, but he did burn some money in those events. On paper, this race is tougher.
5 BIG TIME ROCKS Now 0 for 18 on the year and that does not bode particularly well. It appears that he has tailed off a bit too.
6 PRINCE SHARKA Merits strong consideration on the drop in class as he is moving to the level of his most recent win. Likely favorite.
7 ART OF ILLUSION Manzi’s choice has been facing better, but he is just 1 for 22 on the year. He can win, but that record scares me.
8 DASH N That was a brave rally from a very tough spot and he remains in good form. Berry just has to get him closer from here.
9 CASIMIR CAMOTION Recent form just has not been sharp and it would take a form reversal at this time to merit any consideration.
10 COME ON RIDGE Back to back solid tries at this level, but his lack of speed will leave him with an awful lot to do. Earns a piece.
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 1-5-3-7
H Horse Comment
1 DANIELLES ALL ACES I like the rally she put forth in that last baby race and for a $22,000 Harrisburg yearling tag, this filly is a steal.
2 MAGNIFIQUE Just a $4,000 Lexington-Select yearling and her lone baby race she was pretty well-beaten. I need to see more here.
3 I NEED HOTSTUFF Most expensive of this field as a $107,000 Harrisburg yearling. I like what I have seen and she has some talent.
4 FIYONCE $20,000 Harrisburg yearling has put forth 2 decent baby races. But, she will need to go much faster in this group.
5 IDEAL HELEN Homebred could be a good one as she was a rapidly closing 2nd behind a nice filly last time. Lots to like with this lass.
6 LOUNGE ACT This is just a $4,000 Harrisburg yearling who is yet to break the 2:00 mark. She looks like she needs more seasoning.
7 MY LADY DAY A $75,000 Lexington yearling has shown good speed and she certainly has some talent to her as well. Logical player.
8 HIGHLAND ROCKSTAR Just a $12,000 Lexington-Select yearling, so that is a pretty good line. Still, she will need to go faster now.
12 Twelfth Race Entries
Picks: 10-9-6-7
H Horse Comment
1 PEMBROKE DEWEY Showed good speed last time, but faltered late in the mile. Catches a pretty tough group so he will need to be better.
2 KEVLAR HANOVER Made a miscue last time, but his prior effort was OK. This race came up tough so I am going to watch this one.
3 RELENTLESS DREAMER He is always at the mercy of pace and trip. Perhaps post 3 can get him away within shouting distance.
4 FORENSIC Z TAM Not sure what happened last time, other than it was a tougher C-1. No Bolero Andrew to contend with in here.
5 DAMON BLUE CHIP It seems that this C-1 level might be a bit too tough for him. Seems to be battling it out for a minor award.
6 RECENT NEWS Dropping out of the Open at Saratoga which is an angle we have seen work in the past. I wouldn’t sell too short here!
7 A COOL CARD He has come back racing in good form and that last mile makes him awfully tough in this spot. Major contender in here.
8 LONG LIVE ROCK That was a nice mile last time and just got caught in the stretch. We know he has speed and he can use it well.
9 BULLET SPEED Rallied well last time and finished a good 2nd against a very tough horse in Bolero Andrew. He looms a major player.
10 MIGHTY YOUNG JOE Gelding has been facing better and shows a win at this C-1 level. He has the speed to overcome the draw. My pick.
13 Thirteenth Race Entries
Picks: 4-9-7-6
H Horse Comment
1 GALEX Disappointed last week as the odds-on favorite. Now he faces a much tougher group and will offer a much larger price.
2 BIG ART Another beaten favorite from a week ago that despite coming back at the same level is facing tougher. Needs very best.
3 GRATIAS DEO Made a break when I believe he was getting tired last week. He is making a large move up the class ladder. Longshot.
4 SIR MICHIGAN Z TAM Coming out of the PASS, he has obviously been facing better lately. Expect a much better effort this time.
5 PADRE MANUEL Made a bold move before tiring in the stretch and his record now stands at 0 for 19. Hard to recommend on top.
6 SHARK TREASURE That was a good effort last time and he is now making his second start on Lasix. Expect another solid try.
7 AIRBURST HANOVER Was not able to make up as much ground last time facing better, but he will arrive late on the scene for a share.
8 THISGUYSAROCKSTAR Stepping up out of the same mile as Gratias Deo, and I deem both of them longshots in this better field.
9 NET TEN EOM Speaking of a drop in class, this colt fits this non-winners of 2 condition following a win in the PASS. Looks very tough.
10 NASSAU COUNTY Good effort last week but just don’t feel that race stacks up very well in this particular spot. Looks up against it.
14 Fourteenth Race Entries
Picks: 2-1-8-7
H Horse Comment
1 PALM’S BEACH One of only three horses that I deem a win candidate in this field. Recent efforts are decent enough to make him a player.
2 PEDRO ISLAND One of the other top contenders as he has been facing much better lately and should be a candidate on the drop down.
3 JETTIN JUSTIN Was not a factor last time but there is some upside as he must have needed that start. I think he can be better here.
4 BEWARE OF DARKNESS Added Lasix last time but it did not seem to help too much. It is hard to give him a look in this field.
5 POKER CHAMP He finished in 27.2 last time and does draw well for this event. I can see him rounding out a trifecta or a superfecta.
6 BRANDON’S COLT Recent form has been dull and that nw2500 win at Freehold just has not held up in his next few starts. Pass.
7 ALLAMERICAN CHIEF That was a better effort last time and he has the pattern of a horse cycling forward. Might add value to exotics.
8 HURRIKANE ANTHONY Here is the other win candidate as he is exiting a better race and raced admirably in there. Expect speed.
9 MILLIONDOLLAR ART Recent form has been dull and I would need to see a turnaround before I can recommend at this time.
10 EIGHT TEN EOM Another whose form has not been sharp and coming off a 20 length loss, I will be looking elsewhere.
