H Horse Comment
1 NOT MY FIRST RODEO Pretty consistent up at Scarborough, so let's expect that form to transition down here. I like the pole position start, and with a switch to Simon, this is a horse to be reckoned with. Reasons to like.
2 SMOOTH MOCHA Firing back on a bit of short rest. Wasn't exactly outstanding last Saturday at Freehold, finishing an even fifth at long odds. Seems to own speed at times. Could be in line for a nice, inside trip. That would help cause.
3 WELLWESAID Exiting a couple of tough spots, so let's not be too hard on him. The recently added Lasix should be helping by now. Figures to offer decent value in here. I guess it's all about pace and trip for this fella.
4 DR C'S Z TAM Durable 11YO has been up and down the class ladder of late. Didn't show much in the conditioned spot here last week. With presence of A Nap, I don't anticipate much value. Will probably prefer others for tonight.
5 TERROR OF THE NITE Clearly outraced his odds last pair, with decent rallies both times. What will the price be tonight, and will the race set up for his rally? Two legitimate questions. I wouldn't want short value.
6 WET SHARK Raced on Sunday at Rosecroft out of the eight-hole and didn't fire, as expected. Guess I have to rate him the longshot of the bunch. Let's see if mile track picks him up at all. Not sure about that.
7 FLY'N WITH ROYALTY Didn't exactly impress, in a four-horse field in the snow on Saturday. Stalked in good spot and was basically empty. Speed is his game, so expect a full blast out from Vinny here. How far will he go? Not enough.
8 MODERN YANKEE Easily the key to the race, with Super Brett taking the call. Overcame a difficult trip to win his last and might have to do that again. Facing pressure early if he guns, so let's expect a float out. Smooth trip would help.

Picks: 3-4-1-10
H Horse Comment
1 STAR STUDDED CAST Hasn't exactly impressed since arriving here in East Rutherford. The pole position will be a big plus, though. I expect him to get a decent trip somewhere close behind the favorite. Not completely out of it.
2 MIDFIELD MAGIC Down from Plainridge, along with a few others for this barn. The missed time is a concern, and so is his flat form. Not sure I could hop on board the very first time here.
3 GOLD MEDAL SWAN Yes, he did disappoint in a big way last week, but he was under heavy pressure. Ended up tiring a bit towards the end. BUT, this field looks even weaker than that one. Let's just say no excuses accepted tonight.
4 TROPICAL TRICE Might have the best chance of upending the favorite. Won on Sunday up in Maine, but in very slow time. Must have been a very off track! Still, that's two in a row and horse likes to win. Can't blame her for that.
5 CODIAS ON THE MOVE In from the Meadows for a big track try. Used early in last, before fading. I can't exactly expect that the stamina level will be any greater here. Usually it goes the other way. I'm going to pass on this one.
6 ORDER BY COMMANDER Simply put: is he good enough? Well traveled of late, but against lesser. A longshot.
7 CELEBRITY STIMULUS Didn't really use his speed in the amateur event. New driver here, so I think we can expect to see some early effort. Not sure how long he can last against the likes of #3, but any smooth trip would help.
8 MYSTICAL DEW Now 0-14 on the year and counting. Didn't show much from the pole position start with Simon last time, so I can't be overly positive from the outside slot like this. Your call?
9 JUSTSINGALONG Looks like another longshot, from the outside gate here. Not quite my type in spot like this.
10 WHATNBLAZES This 11YO warhorse has a touch of speed, so he'd better use it just to get involved. Finishing the mile is a bit of a concern, but he still looks better than some of these. Can he overcome the post?
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 6-3-9-5
H Horse Comment
1 URIEL Unfamiliar with both horse and driver, so let's just watch one. Can they keep up from the pole?
2 HOLLYWOOD JESS Not exactly a "winning machine" of late, so that's a problem. The break behind the gate last start is also a big concern. Hasn't cracked the 2:00 mark on the half lately. I guess that's the final strike.
3 REAL DJ HANOVER Probably a much better chance in this post with the relief. Usually, the DJ has good speed to offer and I would expect that tonight. Hasn't been super sharp of late, but a top effort gives major chance.
4 MASS BALANCE Trainer Rob is going to drive a few tonight, and I'm anxious to see what he can do with this new horse to the barn. I can't predict a total turnaround right off the bat, but let's look for any improvement here.
5 DNIEPER IF barn has finally figured this fella out, this is prime spot for a wakeup call. I wouldn't completely rule it out, because horse has faced much better in the past. If you were looking for a live price play, this could be it.
6 BOLD FRESH One of the many possibilities in a wide open race. 24-yr-old pilot gets a very live drive here, and horse should be a LOT better after that acclimating mile here. I could easily take a positive view on this guy tonight.
7 LANDONFITZ Finds his way back into amateur event for owner/driver Yarock. Horse has certainly gone fast enough in the past to threaten these. I'm not in love with the post, so demand fair value if you fancy. Needs to get away better.
8 PEOPLESAYIMNOGOOD That wasn't a bad first try on the mile track. Made up decent ground from a rough spot, but he moves even further outside now. How far back will he be, before launching? I don't know answer to that one.
9 AVENTURE This horse was three and four deep ALL of the final turn last week, yet still kept coming. It was a real eye opener, but I do have to caution he might get away last again. That's not going to help, at short price.
10 WINNING PRINCESS Have to expect speed from this post, as long as trainer/driver has her on the gate. It's never easy to win from post 10, but horse does like to win. A big maybe, but only at fair odds.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 9-6-10-1
H Horse Comment
1 SALEVSTER STALLION Jimmy Jr. had an option and chose this fella over #7. Horse gets some needed post relief, so if you were searching for a "live price play" I probably wouldn't talk you off this one. Still needs to improve, though.
2 MUST BE THE BUNNY Perfect trip and drive from A Nap on this one to produce the upset. Will he get that lucky again? I usually opt for no, knowing the price will be a lot shorter. 12O is game, however. Let's see if good again.
3 STORMIN RUSTLER 13YO warhorse is back for another go on the mile track. Tailed off last two. A longshot.
4 PAN GRAD This was Brett Miller's choice over #3,5, so take an extra look. He drove this fella last time and horse got shuffled. Maybe he's expecting some serious improvement, or a better trip? A big maybe.
5 RUSHING HERO Invades on a bit of a losing skid, so I'll take the wait and see approach. Must prove he belongs.
6 ESPRIT DE KAYJAY A What a tough horse this is! At age 13, he proved he could still hack it on the mile track with a big rally for Andy. Ideally spotted with the midpack post and of course, he's versatile too! Hard to leave out.
7 IDEAL BID Struggled upon arrival when surprisingly well bet. Jimmy opted off here, so maybe we should too?
8 CHARMBRO CURIOSITY Just did miss, with a huge try in much improved fashion last week. Must admit I was wrong, but he's not exactly "rewarded" with this post, plus he loses Andy. I'm going to take negative view again.
9 BROWN COLOR Dangerous barn when they invade with one, plus the brown horse picks up Allard. I'm not in love with the post, but wouldn't be shocked if we saw big time speed. Needs to work on the win record, however.
10 ISE THE BY BOY Doesn't always win, but always seems to be around the number. Post 10 is going to be the problem tonight, but somehow, he'll find a way to get involved. Can't leave off the ticket, even from this post.
11 SOUTHWIND INFERNO Athearn put a nice trip on the gelding in their Big M debut and they both got a check! Second tier start, so the pressure will be on again. Only needs to add a bigger kick to the arsenal to get any closer.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 3-2-1-7
H Horse Comment
1 WILD SMILE Simply got rolling a little too late last week, from too far back. With the rail now, gelding should be a bit closer. Both favorites in this race are usually closers and they have the inside. Should make for interesting tactics.
2 MONTALBANO BI Full credit to Team Harmon on having this veteran ready! And now, Rob will replace Jimmy in the seat for an amateur try. The inside post is guaranteed to keep them close enough. Will be hard to deny in this spot.
3 NO RECESS Taking a pretty big class drop, folks. Plus, if you want an alternative to the fave, this is your best option. Horse packs versatile speed, and that's the way pilot likes to drive. I could easily take a positive view here.
4 MASSIVE LIGHTNING I don't really know what to do with this fella, now with the missed time. Yes, the horse was very good here, but that seems like forever ago. Not sure he's as good as #1,2,3 anyway. Might need this one.
5 ON THE PODIUM Simply because Lee is driving, this horse might get overbet. But, in reality, horse isn't in the same class with the likes of inside favorites. I guess I'd be surprised if he jumped up and won. I've been wrong before.
6 PARTY ON THE RIVER Benefited from the trip of a lifetime last week to pay off at long odds. If you didn't go to the wedding, I suggest you don't go to the funeral here. Might be lesser price and might not be so lucky tonight.
7 NEVERDIE Improved in second Big M try, so that gives reason to look. I'm certainly not in love with the post, or fact that faves are inside. Probably needs to get a little lucky from out here, but strange things sometimes happen.
8 WARRAWEE PREFERRED Not quite the winning machine this year, plus he's drawn outside and stepping up. Pass.
9 TROPICAL STORM BI Firing back on short rest here. A touch flat at long odds at Spa on Sunday. This is a slight drop, but it's a poor post and probably bad pace scenario. Not sure I can hop into this corner just yet.
10 FOX VALLEY STEFFEN Probably the key to the race, but maybe not in a good way. Horse's only weapon is speed, but he's not very controllable either. Could cause a little mayhem if firing out. I will expect it.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 2-1-7-6
H Horse Comment
1 FOX VALLEY CADET A tad disappointing last few at short odds, but I don't think he'll be the favorite in here. Also gets some post relief and could plot for a great trip. If #6 comes up a little short, then Cadet might take advantage.
2 HEY DALI Burned a LOT of cash in first go back on the big track. Yes, the pace was a sizzler, but he flat out stopped. I'll add that Andy opted for #6 in here, so that could be very telling. Maybe a change of tactics tonight?
3 FOUNDMYTREASURE Retains large longshot status, in need of a big wakeup call. Can't predict those.
4 MAY I CRUISE WEST What a difference a week makes! Went from parked and tortured two back, to flying late from last for the upset win. I really don't know what to expect tonight, but I suspect it's off the pace. Needs a trip.
5 RUSTY TANK No real threat against these last week, in first start back on big track. Guess I'll have to pass off that.
6 WALKS OF LIFE Is he ready? It's a simple question, but not an easy answer. Fusco claimed this guy back in July. I hated him in the follow-up try and he won like a killer. MIA since, so what happened? Andy q'd him and chose him!
7 ROCK THE OFFICIAL Vinny opted here over #9 and I can understand that. That was truly monster try at 26-1 last week on the short rest. Will he be that good again? I'm going to guess yes! Probably a must use in gimmicks.
8 ACTON ONELASTTIME Actually wasn't bad in first try here last week. With that said, I think the price will still be big and the post is still bad. I would consider using in some underneath slots if the value is there. Needs a trip too!
9 MASTER OF PUPPETS Had a good trip last time and not nearly enough kick. Now moves to tough post. Pass.
10 ONE EYED ALLEY CAT Flashed serious speed in last pair, but not the knockout punch to go along with it. Another that might need a new strategy with a brutal post. I'll be watching closely.
11 EVERY INTENTION Fresh claim here for the barn, and not a bad idea. Horse has good speed, but would appreciate chance to rate the pace. New driver in A Nap and the second tier in here could be ideal. Some positives.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 1-5-10-7
H Horse Comment
1 WHATAORSE Liked him last week and he simply got trapped in too long. Gets a key inside post here, but Allard did opt elsewhere. Big price coming if you think he can get a smoother journey and uncork that one kick.
2 NORTHERN ASSASSIN A A Nap had choice between the Ford trainees and took this one, which surprised me. So, have to take an extra look here. Horse acclimated back to mile track, but with wild pace. Needs a softer mile now.
3 BEACHCHIP HANOVER Invades from the north with some good-looking lines and I thought Brett would opt here, but he did not. So, do we pass and watch one? Especially after missing a few weeks? I think so. Watch closely.
4 LE GAMBE Finished full of pace upon arrival for Cushing, to show that both horse and driver belong! Not bad. Gets a slightly better post here to keep closer to the action. Will he kick that well again? Probably. Won't be 50-1 this time.
5 CITY PIE This was Miller's choice over #3,7. Also got rolling a little too late last time and moves in a few slots. Will Brett change tactics here? He might. I would. Horse is versatile, so any chance to get head start on #10 is good.
6 INVICTUS HANOVER In from Pennsy with some interesting lines. Has shown plenty of ability before. Might not be the worst longshot stab I've ever seen. Has won here before, but perhaps at lower level? Real tough call tonight.
7 JUS' LIKE A VIRGIN Had Miller opted here, I'd be a lot more positive. Racing on short rest after dull effort against much better. This is a lot more where he belongs, but the outer post may not help. Very mixed feelings.
8 INTRIGUED INTENDED Was surprisingly sent off the favorite last time and got parked out, so don't hold that against him. Facing a tall order here for new barn in brutal post. Not sure what to expect, in a very wide open race.
10 CALVIN B The last one to consider here has really been a money burner of late, but can't be overlooked. He's faced far better than this in the past, but it's still a good test from post 10. Hard to rely upon, but hard to leave out too!
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 7-4-6-8
H Horse Comment
1 BARYNYA A Parlayed a perfect trip down at Freehold into a big winner's circle visit. With that said, mare ships back here, where she wasn't quite as effective. Best asset here is the rail, so she can just sit and stalk again. A maybe.
2 SHARON ROSE ARTIST Mare seems to have a touch of speed, but also a lot to prove here on the mile track. She's faced what I would consider to be weaker, so I'm going to watch one. Let's see if she's good enough.
3 AARIN HANOVER Brett opted here, which surprised me just a touch. This spot is no easier than last two, where she was just okay. Because he chose this lass, the price won't be that big. I'll probably let her beat me, if she can.
4 CHARMING HILL A bit of an odd effort upon arrival, but nevertheless, she won! Took a while to kick in, but that could easily serve as a great acclimating mile. Pretty much same kind of race here, so if she improves, watch out!
5 HERETIC FRANCO N Down from the Spa with a slight drop back to a more reasonable level. Had A Nap opted here, I would have taken a much bigger look. Since he did not, I'll probably opt to watch one. See if she can go here.
6 ROCKERS ALLEY Here's where A Nap chose, so let's take a longer look. Mare had been competing against slightly lesser with mixed results. Did she need first try on mile track? If so, we'll have to expect some improvement.
7 DOUBLE JOY Raced last Saturday against Open types at Rosecroft. Finished last from rail, but at odds of 43-1, so that was obviously too tough. Simon gets call, with Brett opting for #3. I still think she's got a decent chance here. Use.
8 PURITY Might end up favored, in what is a VERY wide open race. Bounced back nicely to charge home last week. Her cover wasn't very good, but is she at mercy of pace and trip again? OR, will she revert to the speed. Wish I knew.
9 DUNESIDE LIFE Almost stole one at 130-1 last week. Speed tightened for sure! But, bad post blues again. Pass.
10 JARNAC Where's she going from post 10 off a sick scratch and dull effort. I'm guessing not very far.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 5-1-8-7
H Horse Comment
1 CAM'S LUCKY SAM Gets both post and class relief, so that always catches my eye. Marohn did not opt here, however. Horse was surprisingly favored against that better group in last and was flat. Will he wake up here?
2 WINDSONG GORGEOUS Didn't show much in first start back here, plus Brett opted off. Guess I'll pass, and see if he wakes back up a little. It's possible, but not always predictable.
3 FORCED PASSAGE Third of barn's starters debuts here in a difficult spot. If any of the earlier horses jumped up and surprised, maybe we take an extra look here. He's got the right guy in the seat. Horse likes to hit the ticket too!
4 BUCKEYE IN CHARGE Retains longshot status, having been no solid threat lately. In need of a lot more.
5 EMPEROR MONTANA N Brett opted here over #2. Horse scoots over from Yonkers on the slight class drop and we don't often see this barn here. But, when he do, horses are usually live. Have to expect a better effort vs. these.
6 QUALITY BUD Not much to say about last few starts. The added Lasix not making much of a difference. A Nap takes a return call, but even he will be tested to try and get more out of this horse. Not my type.
7 BUCKLE UP Jimmy took this one, over #1,8, so that catches my eye. The late kick from impossible spot in first try here caught my eye. Can the gelding get any closer in early stages? He might have to. It's hard to win from that far back.
8 MAJOR BUDDY A In from the Meadows for Andy F and he's had horses race well of late. I can see the dull recent form, but he's catching the right kind of field for a wakeup call. Maybe we watch tote board for clues?
9 CLASSIC SEEBREEZE Off a sick scratch. Not exactly going great guns right now. Hard to like from out here.
10 MEDOLAND JATE Gelding has been off for a year and gets stuck with post 10 in first start back. That is not exactly a "recipe for success." I think I'll let him beat me, if he can.
