1 DANISHDUJOUR Did a fairly good job of chasing an uncatchable winner last week. Overcame post 10 before that, so he is sharp right now! Has that speed, from the rail with The Mann back aboard. Looks like the one to beat. Trainer: His last two starts are very encouraging. He's had a good week, and gets to race back in 8 days. Should be a quality start.
2 GOLD STAR ROGER Didn't show me enough in that qualifier to make me want to bet. Pass for now.
3 WALKS OF LIFE Bounced back nicely with an improved effort down at Freehold. Finds his way back to the big track, dangled in for this $7,500 tag. I still remember that dazzling win last month. Will he be that good again?
4 BIG BAD JASON Had to need that last one, after missing a month, but boy was it bad! Seemed to be much stronger a while back. I can't predict a total turnaround, but that's what he would need. Is it coming? I have my doubts. Trainer: Hoping for a better trip, but should be tighter this week.
5 IDEAL DANNY Been towing along, but not as a serious threat lately. Retains longshot status, and needs more.
6 SOUTHERN SPORT Into new barn here. Held well despite a tough trip up at Monti. Horse owns a big closing kick, but now gets Marohn. I can make a case he gets a lot closer here. I just don't know how hot the pace will be? Tough spot.
7 FORTY CARROTS First time Brett Miller here, and only third start since the claim. Wasn't bad from the 10-box last time, in a no chance trip. Does he have any speed? Might need some, just to get into the game against #1.
8 AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL Bruce Aldrich was listed on overnight, but not here. He piloted this guy at Monti last month. Horse does have some speed, a la 12/22. Will need all of that, and then some to get home here. Not an easy spot.
9 ROYAL OUTLOOK Loses that inside post advantage and looks like a longshot from way out here. Not my type.
10 SALEVSTER STALLION Hasn't had much luck at the post draw either. And, you can see that when he does draw outside, we don't get much effort. I will let him beat me, if he can.

1 UPFRONT BILLY Tough trip two back. Sneaky good trot last week. Draws the rail and keeps the Captain. Liable to give this field a real good tussle for the money. Also plots for a good, stalking trip once #6 makes it to lead. Lots to like.
2 IRON MINE JOHNNY I really don't know what to tell you about Johnny right now. Impeded and broke here. Broke at Dover. Back to the mile track, but still in tough with all of the class droppers. It'll be Marcus' job to keep him trotting.
3 DI OGGI Absolutely loved him last time and he felt the sting of a very hot pace battle. Didn't give it up till the final yards, and I will note we have a new pilot aboard tonight. Back to the stalk and rally? If so, he'll probably win.
4 TYCOON SEELSTER Kinda dull last few here. Could have shown more when lowered to this level last time, but did not. Tells me the gelding just isn't sharp right now, and might need additional class relief. I'm willing to wait.
5 ROSSINI Working his way steadily up the class ladder and this might be the limit. I think he's in too tough here.
6 BEE IN CHARGE Used pretty hard in the early battle with #3 last week. It likely cost them both. Still seeking the right class level for the gelding, but this could be it. How easy he gets to the lead determines how long he will last. Trainer: Disappointing effort in last start. Hopefully, drop in class will help.
7 LOU MAN Also the victim of a pace battle last Friday. Friday night was the better night for speed horses, but it was sloppy too! Lou looks in a little steep with these, plus he's stuck outside. Not sure that's going to work out well.
8 ON THE SLY Tends to lag early and I just don't see it working out well for him from way out here. Needs hot pace.
9 QUEEN ADJALA Mare might be the key to the race, and pace battle. Why? Because she can leave! It's time to put her in play, after a string of excuse-laden losses. Was loaded two back in traffic. A tad flat last time. Tough call tonight.
10 THE LINDY TREATY Simply put, he's been off too long. And it's not as if the barn hasn't raced a bunch of horses here. Probably needed the freshening, but we'll pass tonight, and tab for a later spot.

1 IDEAL SHADOW That was SOME speed try from the 10-hole last week! And keep in mind that speed horses just weren't holding on that night, so extra credit! From the rail, might face test from #6 early, but will be tough to beat.
2 INTRIGUED INTENDED Been suffering from a variety of bad posts and sick scratches, etc. He really is better than, and one night soon, he'll surprise us. We'll have to guess when, but price will be right. Sits in, saves, tries to get lucky.
3 BAGGAGE CLAIM Finally put it all together to get the New Year started on the right hoof! But, keep in mind he's facing a much stronger group here. Jimmy may opt for more of a stalking strategy. Can pick up a piece with that.
4 ALONEINSPADES Horse is actually going pretty well right now, albeit without a recent win. He's bounced around between the $10K-$15K levels. Hit the board in four straight. So, with that said, I say use underneath in gimmicks.
5 EVERY INTENTION Came flying home to just miss last week. Remember, the track was playing in his favor, but I like how sharp he is right now! Also versatile to do it either way. A Nap's been driving well. No reason not to use.
6 SHOW ME UP After several speed tries, he took back last time from the outside post. Gotta do that every now and then to keep the horse fresh. Now, it's back into reasonable spot to take a shot. Expect the speed again with Marcus.
7 MODERN YANKEE Trainer Gerard celebrated a birthday earlier this week, so HB!! After no luck in his first two here, horse came storming home last week. Unfortunately, he gets slammed with another tough post. What is strategy?
8 MARTIAL BLISS Looks like he'll be coming from the back of the pack again. Sometimes it works out, but most times it doesn't. Without some sort of speed duel or mayhem up front, I think he might have too far to come.
9 DR C'S Z TAM Did not have any excuses when aimed from a good spot last week. Moves outside. I will pass.
10 WORKANDPLAYHARD Final piece of the potential speed puzzle. Took a shot and fired out last time, but did get a little tired. Now starts from post 10 and A Nap has opted to #5. Might be time to give him one from the back.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 1-6-5-8
H Horse Comment
1 IT REALLY MATTERS Had to "need" that last one, after missing significant time. Just toss it out. Now, it's a class drop, a switch to the pole, and a new driver in Andy Miller. Can you say "live?" I can. Must use with that speed coming.
2 WORTH THE MONEY AS Definitely in need of some class relief. Gets a touch of it tonight, but is it enough? I'm not so sure. Horse was a six-time winner last year, so he will find the right spot eventually. Brett's choice over #1.
3 SHADY MCCOY Tried to leave hard again last week and broke. Okay. This level is probably still too high for him, so I expect a more conservative approach. If he gets lucky, he might pick up a check with a trip.
4 ON THE PODIUM Simply put, I don't think he's good enough for these. Likely able to take a class drop next week, so I'll wait for the softer spot on down the road. Looks like a longshot to me tonight.
5 SIMPLY VOLO Had a pretty good qualifier where not really asked for much. Just towed along and kept up. Usually, I prefer to watch one on a Florida shipper in the wintertime, but he's been here for weeks most likely. A chance at price.
6 BROADWAY CONCERT I haven't guessed right on this mare yet. She's been in some tough spot, up and down the class ladder. This is a lot more realistic, but she will also need the right setup. It's all about pace and flow. Marcus' pick. Trainer: Closed strong last week. She is a consistent mare. Hopefully, she will be close when they turn for home.
7 GUESS WHOS BACK Super sharp with that win over weaker two back. Then stepped up to this level and wasn't nearly as effective. Still in tough here, plus he moves way outside. That's probably not going to work out.
8 CAULFIELD Nobody was catching NJ Viking in that last one, so let's give credit for just trying to keep up. With that said, he also loses that cozy inside post and this level is probably one notch too high. Needs some speed, and a trip.
9 STITCH IN TIME Not heading in the right direction at the moment, folks. With that said, I suspect he will wake up one of these nights, but we'll all have to guess when. We won't get an early memo! Have to wait for signs.
5 Fifth Race Entries

1 OBSCENE BLUE CHIP How good was this horse last week? That was SOME steamrolling effort! Keeps gaining confidence and keeps getting better. Tonight, he gets the pure test for class against older, seasoned foes. Your call?
2 WINDSONG JACK He was just okay when overbet last week. That was a paceless race and he sat right behind the eventual winner. Had okay pace, but not loaded. If anything, this field might be tougher than that one.
3 BIG TOP HANOVER Squeezes in for the condition here, so that catches my eye. Only raced nine times last year, so let's call him still on the comeback trail. Gets both post and class relief, so that will help. I guess I can make a case. Trainer: Nice horse and had a good week.
4 MEETYOUATMIDNIGHT Raced about as well as anybody on the lead last Saturday when the bias was clearly against him. Just not having much luck lately, getting into the winner's circle. I will respect the speed and Corey is still on.
5 SPEED AGAIN Same boat as #4. Liked his chances last week and didn't want to see him on the lead. Unfortunately, that's what happened and he was sailing along at a strong clip. If anything, that will have him tighter now. Must use.
6 ALTA LEROY N The third horse in here that raced on the lead last Saturday. It was just his first start since July, so we have to give him a break for that. Tonight's big knock is that Andy opted for #10. Has to tell us something, right?
7 BRIGADOON Went a little bit more forward last time, but still not enough. Takes a slight drop, but in reality, this is a pretty good bunch for this level. Horse owns one kick, but timing and trip will be critical. Might need softer spot.
8 JACKSRLUCKYTOO We all know what Jack's game is, but when I plot out this race, I just don't think he'll be close enough. These bad posts hurt and he'll need a bunch of luck to sweep them all. We'll see about that.
9 JOHNNY Q Very tough spot, having drawn way out here. I don't see him leaving. I don't see him outkicking Jack.
10 SOHO WALLSTREET A Uncorked an eye-opening qualifier! He sailed past Bettor's Edge, who is a legitimate Invitational pacer. Yes, that's a 26 flat kicker in first appearance. Simply put, this is a good horse. Overcomes post 10.
6 Sixth Race Entries

1 ABBIJADE HANOVER Don't forget she took a few "skippy" steps before getting the lead last week. Relaxed once there, so credit to Yannick for getting the job done. LOVE the way she fought down the lane. Sharp now!
1A BETTORHAVEANOTHER Waiting on a wakeup call for the "lesser" half of the betting entry. Added Lasix last time, but gets slammed with another brutal post. They both have speed, but maybe only one will use it? Not sure what to do.
2 KEYSTONE RIPTIDE Invades up the Turnpike from Dover. Those are VERY tough Open races down there. This mare gets both post and class relief for dangerous barn. Have to think she's well meant in here and Brett chose! Go! Trainer: She's been good at Dover against Open mares, but bad post positions have been making it difficult to get into the race. She should like the bigger track as well.
3 HEARTS N FLOWERS Retains longshot status, after proving no threat to these last week. Best asset is inside post.
4 GLENFERRIE BRONTE N Basically "toured" the oval last week from an outside post. Gets a break at the draw tonight, and I have to rate her a very live longshot. Barn has snuck a few in on us this meet. This could be another.
5 LADY OF HEAVEN By all rights, this mare is good right now. Finished willingly to just miss against #1,9 last time. Probably in need of another live cover trip like last week. It's all about pace and trip for her. Needs a good one.
6 ELM GROVE INARUSH Finds her way back over from Yonkers for Harris. Barn has two in here, and Corey was named on both. Mare should be raced back into shape by now, after freshening. Is tonight the "go" night? Wish I knew.
7 UF DRAGON'S QUEEN Squandered a good opportunity last week, given a perfect trip by Nap. I'll pass off that.
8 CAROBBEAN PACETRY Was three-wide around the first turn, and parked the mile before that last week. In other words, a no chance trip. Starts from same difficult post. How will it be any easier? It might not. Needs some luck.
9 COUSIN MARY Was locked in and absolutely loaded when she got out too late last week. Remains razor sharp for barn, but keeps getting these terrible posts. Corey ends up choosing this one for barn. Likely short price again. Trainer: Keeps drawing outside, and traffic is worse than the Turnpike!
7 Seventh Race Entries

H Horse Comment
1 PRINCE OF POPS N Didn't make much of an impact upon arrival, but it's easy to understand why. Drew a tough post. Had missed a month. This doesn't look like the right spot either, but I will be watching for future consideration.
2 MR D'S DRAGON Was forced way up in class in last try over at Yonkers. Drew a tough post, so that likely sealed fate. My question is whether gelding is a legitimate "Preferred" type pacer? I have my doubts, so will go against.
3 SWEET BEACH Raced MUCH better than expected here last week. Kind of caught my eye, since he'd missed a month and just kept grinding gamely. Tonight's problem is strength of field. Is he really this good? I'm not so sure.
4 ALOTBETTOR N I can still see the eye-popping explosion this guy uncorked here last month. Looks like he raced very well again vs. better over at Yonkers. Loses Brett tonight, but still packs a big shot here. Gets jump on #6? Maybe.
5 WESTERN JOE How good is Joe right now? Pretty darn good! It took a big mile to get past #3 last week, but he was involved in solid pace from the get-go. It's hard to ignore sharp horses, but this is big step up to tackle tougher.
6 TULLOW N I suppose they freshened him up for a bit, and then opted to "prep" him down at Freehold. I don't even care that he got beat. This is back to where he belongs on the big track. BUT, will he be coming from last? Perhaps. Trainer: He trained well against Sally Fletcher A. All set and ready for his best effort.
7 BETTOR'S EDGE Clearly the key to the race, because he's probably the classiest horse in here. BUT, it's first start back off a long layoff. He did get nipped in qualifier, but wasn't being asked. If he clears easy, he might steal it.

1 SALLY FLETCHER N How good is this mare right now? Monster! BUT, she's forced into this spot against males and some good ones at that! This will be a brand new ballgame and I'm not so sure she's up to the task. We'll find out. Trainer: She trained well against Tullow N. All set and ready for her best effort.
2 SPICEBOMB Bad date here, since he hasn't raced in over a month. With that said, I will pass, as Brett did.
3 STARZNHEAVEN Up and down the class ladder, with varying degrees of success. Usually good for one solid move in a mile, but timing and trip are always critical. Demand a fair price if you fancy his chances in this spot.
4 ALLBLACK STRIDE N No, I don't know why he scratched last week, but I sure wish I did! Loved him in that spot, and must continue to like him here. Drew key inside post to keep him close. If he rallies like he did last time, he wins.
5 CHEYENNE SEEBER What a slick drive from Yannick last week on this one. Yes, the track was playing for closers, but horse was still good, and he finished up strong. Tonight's problem is the hike back up in class. Is it too much?
6 ELRAMA N Also very, very good right now, and I'll add that the track was playing against that style last week. This is still pretty high in class, but he plots for a good, stalking trip here. Will kick home, but can he outkick #4?
7 ALLSTAR PARTNER Keeps getting bet hard and has failed in his last four. Now, he's forced up in class and switches back to an outer post. Does have the speed, so expect Brett to send. Can he fight them all off? I say no. Trainer: Has been having issues with trips, but form is sharp.
8 BAD BOY BRAD A Interesting invader from Yonkers for the dangerous barn of Scotty D. I like the class drop, but do wonder about his current form. I hate the post and see that he doesn't leave often. If no leave, I doubt he can win.
9 PONYTA BOY A little bit flat last week, so that disappointed me. Thought he had a shot in there. Maybe he needed the race? Either way, this looks like MUCH tougher spot from a brutal post. Too many other closers to like.
10 VILLE VALO Looked like he would need the race last week and I fear the same situation again. Pass from post 10.

H Horse Comment
1 ROCKIN RAMBARAN What do we do with this one? Off more than a month. Gets key class and post relief and was Marohn's choice over #9. Mixed signals for sure, but if he's primed and ready, he can beat these. Wish I knew. Trainer: Has been in my barn for two weeks. Trained very well and can be ready off the layoff.
2 KOTARE YAEL N Changed bridles last week and flashed good speed before getting a touch rank. Tired after that. Okay. Since he moves back to an inside post, the trip should be different. He's a better stalker and rallier.
3 PERFECTLY CLOSE Was perfectly positioned by Corey last time and horse did not have the knockout punch. In fact, he was all out and lucky to be second. Likely will be overbet off that effort, and more required to beat these. Trainer: Better effort last week and looking for improvement from that.
4 GRAVE DANCER Surprisingly, Brett Miller chose this one over #5,8,10. Why? Faced a bottom class last week at Freehold, in a race he probably needed, but tired anyway. I suppose he's better than that, but a LOT more needed.
5 J T Fresh purchase out of the mixed sale by Team Sodano. They listed Brett, but didn't get him. Horse has been off a few weeks, but A Nap ends up with the call. That is a sign of positive intent. Has speed if he wants it. Dangerous!
6 MR BAILANDO Retains longhost status for the time being, until we see a more positive effort again. Pass.
7 YANKEE HEAVEN Did not race well in first start for new barn off the claim. Corey listed, and opted to #3. I guess I have to rate him a longshot, until we see a good one again. Not so sure about that.
8 THE FIRE WITHIN Brett drove last two. One good. One, not so good. He chose off tonight from the bad post and I would have a tough time endorsing in this situation. Needs a little luck, and a very smooth journey.
9 DUNE DUDE I've been off his bandwagon for a while, and rightfully so! Was well-positioned in the flow last week, which was where you wanted to be, and he was empty late. Hard to like now, after seeing that.
10 BRICKMAN The final "puzzler" in here. Brett had stayed loyal twice and horse was not good either time. Now, it's post 10, he bails and horse has missed a month. That all adds up to pass for me.
10 Tenth Race Entries

1 QUALITY BUD Actually wasn't bad when hiked up in class last time. His win before that was superb! But, is he now in too tough with these claimers? I'm going to say yes, and let him beat me if he can. I'll wait for softer spot.
2 GIVEN UP TERROR Couple of weeks off. Seemed in a bit tough with these claimers last few anyway. It doesn't get any easier in here, so it's up to The Mann to somehow get him a trip, and a check.
3 FLEM N EM N The Captain chose this one over #5, but I figured that. If you just toss the race at Yonkers (pp8) you get a major contender. Somehow found a way to win here with late squeezing surge. Needs that kind of trip again. Maybe.
4 ROCKET J Barn's other purchase out of the sale, but they have their work cut out with this guy. Broke for no apparent reason in finale for Silva. Had soft trips, but good rallies before that. He's a one-move pony. Needs things his way.
5 EVEIL DUN CHAMPION Passed only the tired ones in Big M debut, but it was post 10, so we can give him a pass. He also needed that race after missing time. Gets a much more ideal starting slot here. Wakeup not out of the question.
6 NORTHERN ASSASSIN A Perfect trip for the shocker here two back. Showed nothing at Yonkers in a dull flow. So far, he's threatened and beaten the conditioned foes, but not these claimers. Will A Nap send him? I probably would.
7 DURANT Mr. Longshot put a perfect steer on this fella last week and they got the money! That was the trip that won all night. Back to the claimers here and he will be firing out too! Same trip coming? Ya never know. Maybe.
8 KINGS BARNS Sneaky kind of good last few and I just wish he'd drawn a better post. From this slot, Marohn will have to be patient and hope they mix it up early. IF they do, this guy will come charging. Hopefully, at a price too!
9 COPPER COAST A I don't really know what to do with this guy. As good as he was on 12/23, he's been that bad since. Drops back to the proper price tonight, however and he's got that speed too! We're liable to see it. Bounces back?

1 VALRHONA I thought he might be able to handle the class hike, as Corey's choice last week, but the horse was not. Gets another inside post, but might opt for the sit in, save ground trip now. Let's see if he can keep up with these.
2 BOTTOM DEALS Had Brett Miller chosen this one, I probably would like a lot more. This is the right kind of class drop to produce a big wakeup call. Should be sufficiently raced back into shape off layoff. Drew good post. A maybe.
3 BIG STRETCH MARK Keeps getting bet like a champ, and I wish I could book the action! No match for a runaway winner last time, but he did race well again. Owns speed and versatility, but I will NOT put him on top. Only under.
4 SUNSHINE WEST I have now come to the conclusion that he's tailed off. Simple as that. Pass for now.
5 MR EUROMAN N One of several invading newcomers sent out to qualify last week. Why this one at Freehold, and not here with his stablemates? I don't know the answer to that. But, they ALL looked good! Nice test here on mile.
6 BRUCE'S MAGIC Brett Miller chose Bruce, over #2,7,8. That's a ringing endorsement! However, gelding was surprisingly flat last week, after monster win before that. I guess if you draw a line through last, you can bet.
7 BETTOR IN BLUE Simply put, these look way too tough for him on the ship up from Freehold. Not my type.
8 MAJOR WAR Up and down the class ladder lately, with mixed results. No threat and no moves against this level last time. Drew another tough post. Can't expect a whole lot more, right? I will go against. Trainer: Needs to get involved early to have a chance.
9 MEDEIVAL DRAGON Uncorked a MUCH improved effort last week. Caught my eye, with that speed, and he fought willingly to hold second behind runaway winner. Meeting a different kind of bunch here. Needs that speed again.
10 SIX GUN Also benefited from the way the track was playing last week, but he was good. Charged home with nice kick, but isn't exactly "rewarded" with the hike up in class, or the post drawn. In other words, his luck has run out.
12 Twelfth Race Entries

1 CHIP WALTHER Was very good when last seen here. Dismiss the eight-hole "tour of the track" at Yonkers. Back in here on mile, but at much higher level. Not sure I'd want underlay odds, even from the rail. This is NO easy spot.
2 DAVID'S DREAM David still appears to be in a little steep at this level, so I'm probably going against him. Will get one of those sit in, save ground, try to get lucky trips. Sometimes, he does. Trainer: Had a few weeks off to freshen up. Draws inside and hopefully can pull off the upset.
3 ALL WEEK Had the obligatory "trip over the track" to get acclimated last week. Had just enough sneaky pace to warrant an extra look here. Will probably offer a decent price, and might battle late with the newcomer, #4.
4 SPRINTER N Down under import was absolutely dazzling in the qualifier. I mean he was loaded! He's only six, yet earned over $200K in Australia. That's a LOT of money. I think he can sweep these from any spot on track.
5 ENDEAVOR Well, at least he proved the win was no fluke! That was super solid kick home for Pat last week. Tonight, this looks like different spot, but if he gets to follow #4, that will be very live cover. Tows home right behind? Trainer: Has been very good of late and had a good week.
6 FRANKY'S BEACH BOY Franky got torched last week, so don't hold that against him. Still very sharp right now, and I think when A Nap handicaps this race, he'll know he HAS to leave. Let's see if he can steal away from the closers.
7 CENTURY CHURCHILL Still waiting on the wakeup call here, and I fear this isn't the spot. It will come, but we all have to be patient. If A Nap opted off, I will do the same. For now.
8 EXPRESS STRIDE N Freshened up a month by Harder. Okay. No problem with that. Exits a very "key" qualifier where he had plenty of kick too! I will even add points if either Bettor's Edge or Soho Wallstreet won earlier tonight. Use!
9 AIR STRIKE Looks like the odd man out, having drawn a very tough post. Corey put him in play last week, but horse got a little tired in first start off the layoff. Will probably be better tonight, and it might still not be enough.

1 BAG PIPE MAJOR He's a non-winners of two horse, in a field of non-winners of three. Not going to work out.
2 CLOUDED VISION Stablemate to Ponyta Boy takes the trailer ride for a Big M try. New connections here and it looks like they have an honest horse. Only one win last year, though. Let's see if he's a fit here on the mile track.
3 HEADLIGHTS ON Stormed home both times, so that's a good thing. Missed a couple of weeks, but I won't let that bother me. I like the inside post draw, but wonder about the pace scenario in here. Not a lot of "speed types."
4 ASTON HILL DAVE I haven't guessed right on anything from this barn lately, so use your own judgment. I have no way to "rate" that Yonkers qualifier, so good luck. Horse has shown affinity to lose as big favorite. Huge question.
5 WHATA TWIST Out of the same race as #3, three weeks ago. Andy takes the call again and horse clearly likes the longer stretch here. But, who will get first run of the closers? Looks like they all want to rally. Needs smooth trip.
6 SHRINKWRAP Had a much needed race over the track, in his debut on Lasix. New barn probably still figuring him out, and he might need a slightly softer spot than this. I don't envision him outkicking the other closers.
7 FOUNDMYTREASURE Like #1, he doesn't appear to be a match for these, so I think we can safely pass.
8 COMMENTARIAT Also a new barn involved here. Note Daley gives the drive to Beyer, so they might want to "test drive" their new student. He didn't show a lot of speed up in Canada. I guess I want to watch one first.
9 BET THE DRAGON Vinny G will handicap this race and KNOW he HAS to leave the gate. He didn't last time and horse charged home. Left with Marohn and was VERY good before that. Interesting option, in race loaded with closers.
10 BANK SEA Where's he going from post 10? My answer is not very far. Clearly a longshot from the worst post.

1 CONTINUAL HANOVER Andy had an option and chose this fella over #2. H'mmmm. Horse hasn't raced in over a month. #2 won impressively last week. What is that telling us? Judging all the facts, I'd say this one is LIVE tonight.
2 MASTER OF PUPPETS Showed a lot of heart to dig in and hold on last week. He was all out and life and death to win, but if Andy sees fit to opt for #1 instead, isn't that telling us something? I have to think yes. Facing tougher?
3 SOUTHWIND GENERAL By all rights, this gelding should just crush these. It's a huge class drop again. It's a perfect inside post. He's been VERY good against better in last two. And, he gets Brett Miller tonight. "Nuff said.
4 MISTER TRUTH Not really one of my favorites, but even I will admit he did well early last month. This is somewhat similar spot and Eric gets a re-ride tonight. Could easily be aggressive and send him, to try and get a trip. A maybe. Trainer: Has missed a week, but capable in here with improved post.
5 ALWAYS A DIAMOND Benefited from a perfect trip and drive to win on December 7. MIA since? Why? Pass.
6 WICK N Interesting invader for McDermott barn. He raced one off a layoff earlier tonight, so see how that one did. Maybe that will be a gauge on this one's "readiness." Didn't get Marohn, but has some back class to work with. Trainer: Been in my barn for two weeks, but was sick the first week. Trained okay, but might need a start.
7 ROCK ON THE HILL Back down to the more proper level here, but he hasn't been all that great lately. Also moves to a more difficult outside post and seems to lack speed. Might need to get a little luckier to have a shot.
8 NOBLES FINESSE Still waiting on a wakeup call here. When he last won, in a spot like this, he flashed big time speed and held on. Just forget about any of the recent races. Can we watch the tote board to get a clue? Will he fire out?
9 PREPARTY Another horse coming out of a very key qualifier. This horse has beaten this type before, and it's always dangerous to ignore this driver/trainer combo. If you tell me he's leaving, I will tell you to use him. I will.
10 BEACHCHIP HANOVER I think I can safely say this gelding is leaving! It's the only way into the race and it's not in the Captain's nature to take back with a horse that's sharp. Will potential mayhem set it up for a closer? It's a possibility!
