Race Reviews For Saturday, September 25, 2021

1 First Race Entries
Picks: 3-6-7-1
H Horse Comment
1 BLANK STARE Showed more when dropped in class at Chester; fits with this group for Team Cullipher. Trainer: Had a good week and this inside post should fit his stalking style well.
2 I’M A BIG DEAL Finished a close-up third against lesser foes two back; wasn’t competitive at this level in last, but that was from post nine; might be overlooked in the wagering.
3 TYPHOON STRIDE N Went parked out, finished sixth at the NW$9,000 level in his second North American start since shipping in from Down Under; likely to take a lot of money in this spot. Trainer: Went a rough trip last week and I would like to see him come off a helmet tonight. He has been training well.
4 PARTY BOY He raced beyond his 47-1 expectations when third bumping up in class; may prove to be a player at this level.
5 DA DELIGHTFUL Silva student has back class but has been less than spectacular in his last two; hard to say if he’ll show much in the way of improvement tonight.
6 B LIKE CRUISER Steady Pennsylvania performer is likely to be put in play early in what appears to be a competitive field he can beat.
7 BECHERS BROOK A Cullipher Crew member missed a neck two back at Chester displaying speed at both ends of the mile and may find himself all alone on the point just after the three-eighths in this spot.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 2-3-5-4
H Horse Comment
1 MICKEYS SPIRIT Pulled off a 26-1 upset in last and does not figure to be too far from the action when they turn for home tonight; does face some good horses so he’ll be a big price again.
2 SOUTHWIND PETYR Steady sort has earned almost $250,000 from just 21 lifetime starts; Harder student will be firing on all cylinders in deep stretch. Trainer: He needs to prove himself this and I think he will.
3 BILLY CLYDE Schnittker student has faced some serious stock in recent starts and figures to set sail for the lead. Trainer: He’s got a race in Lexington next week so I wanted to get him a start; he should be better on the mile track, I think.
4 LOUIE THE LOOPER Has plenty of form but is that enough to compete in this field? Son of Sweet Lou has been 1st or 2nd in seven-of-11 lifetime tries.
5 TRUFFLE DOG Another solid performer against overnight stock taking on a pair of horses who have performed well with far better; did go up against a pair of top-notch horses (South Beach Star and Pirate Hanover) in his last two outings at The Meadowlands, so that could provide an edge over several of these in here.
6 BULLVILLE JONATHAN Vernon shipper is in a tough spot and will be hoping to pick up some live cover down the backside.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 5-6-7-3
H Horse Comment
1 MEAN IRENE Tough to get behind this one after an eighth-place finish from the rail at odds of 62-1.
2 TRUSSED UP TRUDY Never closer than fifth in her last five starts; strictly for longshot players only.
3 MILADY DENVER A Faced a far tougher assignment in last despite the conditions being identical to tonight’s.
4 BE BEST Perked up a bit when dropped to this class in last; figures to be on the move early and should be in the hunt when they turn for home.
5 RAPUNZEL BLUE CHIP Solid try in last from post nine as the lukewarm favorite; Fanning student appears to be in the winning spot.
6 J ROCKIN B Performed well from off the pace in last, where she was third and Rapunzel Blue Chip was second; it should one of those two to start the Pick-7.
7 CAPTAINS MAID Hasn’t been particularly close since a win on Aug. 3 but she has been facing some tough customers of late and does hail from the Bongiorno barn.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 7-2-1-8
H Horse Comment
1 CHIPLOSIVE Cullipher trainee hasn’t been close in any recent starts but races for the second time off the drop to the NW$6,000 level and may wake up from the rail.
2 MARVELOUSTRIX Trotted her final quarter in last in a similar time to the start before when she won, but that victory came against lesser foes.
3 GOLD MEDAL SWAN Has not done a lot of winning this year (1-for-20) but has put together three straight good starts against what was likely similar stock to what he faces tonight and could be the one.
4 AWESOMEDABRA Uncompetitive in his last two starts, both of which came at this level, yet remains a player in this field in the event he works out some kind of trip.
5 WINGS OF SPEED Came up short as the 3-2 public choice after attempting to go all the way on the point; faces a better field tonight and could surprise with a well-rated, front-end trip.
6 MEADOWBRANCH RICKY Didn’t race all that well on Sept. 11 with better stock but came real close with better than that in late August at Pocono; tough to gauge having scratched-sick in two of his last three.
7 MAX Did not have the type of effort in last that was expected given how he looked on Sept. 11, when he raced for the first time since February; likely worthy of top billing with improvement expected.
8 SKYWAY KON MAN Another Cullipher student who hasn’t been ripping it up of late but very likely may again in the not-too-distant future.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 4-8-5-6
H Horse Comment
1 STORMONT CZAR A Didn’t miss by much to a horse who was super-brave – and winning – after going parked the mile; takes on better tonight but should be close when they turn for home.
2 LOTTERY WINNER Broke early and was never involved in a GSY Series event last week; beat cheaper easily on the lead in the start prior at Freehold and doesn’t look like an ideal fit with these.
3 BIGONPERSONALITY N Put it all together to beat low-end stock at Freehold after going first-over; had faced far better in August at Yonkers and could be a player in here.
4 DEVIL OR ANGEL Has put together three good starts in a row for Quevedo; finished an OK third with similar stock at Freehold two back; contender.
5 ROCKEYED OPTIMIST 10-year-old has a bank account that exceeds $750,000; his form is less than fabulous so he’s not one I would necessarily use as a single despite his considerable back class.
6 CECIL CASANOVA Tried to take lesser down the road before getting nailed in last; has failed in three straight trying to go wire-to-wire and might be able to make some noise were he to try it from off the pace.
7 CENTURY GRIZZLY Did not race at a high level in a low class in last; must show some improvement to threaten.
8 FOREVERNALWAYS Raced at too high of a level to compete in last, especially from post 10 at 96-1; missed a neck two back from off the pace when facing this kind.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 3-5-6-8
H Horse Comment
1 ZLATAN Veteran is familiar with the winner’s circle at The Meadowlands but he bumps up in class off a pair of sub-par efforts and does not look like a good fit here.
2 MY BOY CHRISTIAN Shows a sweet score on Aug. 19 at Yonkers but hasn’t done much since facing some higher-class foes; lone recent Big M start was a seventh-place finish on Sept. 11.
3 WINNERUP Speedy veteran from The Burke Brigade is a huge threat to lead at every call; established his lifetime-best 1:52.1 at this track earlier this year.
4 MOVEOUTOFMYWAY K Qualified in 1:55., which is fine, but his last betting race was over a month ago, and in that race, he went off stride; too many negatives right now to consider this one.
5 JUSTLIKEHIM Quevedo trainee put up big efforts in each of his last two Meadowlands starts, missing a neck in last with lesser and finishing a close third to Chin Chin Hall in the start prior to that.
6 HL REVADON Consistent competitor has been third or better in three straight for Harry Landy; his best game is to leave the gate and get a good spot, the type of trip that could get him a win at a decent price.
7 ROCK PARTY Might lack class when compared to some in here but could prove to be a live longshot with an alert getaway.
8 DELTASUN A Raced well with better foes at Chester nine days ago but hasn’t been as good in recent weeks as he was earlier this year; Harris trainee finds himself in a spot where he can win if he lifts his game a notch or two.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 7-8-4-1
H Horse Comment
1 ALICORN Finished a sharp second in her second start back from Pocono; could work out a good trip along the rail from post one and grab a piece in a tough field.
2 BETTORS HEART N Fits from a class point of view but right now does not have enough form to go with most of these; she will again down the road.
3 ROSE RUN VANTAGE Another whose form has not been all that good of late; the Cullipher Crew will find the right spot for this one as soon as she is sharp again.
4 STAYCATION HANOVER Pelling protégé was potent, powering past her foes for her first win in some time last week; she’s awfully good but can she beat classy older foes? We’ll find out. Trainer: Racing older foes is never ideal but the mile track has her back on track. We’re adding Lasix due to signs of bleeding. We are confident of more improvement.
5 STONEBRIDGE SOUL Being competitive in Warrawee Ubeaut’s 1:48.4 win proved challenging for this one; it doesn’t look like any of these will go that kind of mile in here.
6 TELLITSASSYMAE Knows much about the end zone, having won 10 of her last 39 starts, but it appears she in too deep tonight.
7 SHE’S NUN BETTOR N Went her best mile in a while last week when second to Major Occasion; capable of beating this group.
8 SWEET LUCY LOU Sweet Lou product has stayed sharp for some time now; beat lesser two back on the engine but her best game is off the pace. Trainer: She’s been racing well and we are hoping for some racing luck and a big effort.
8 Eigth Race Entries

1 MAZZARATI Faced some tough customers (Bella Bellini and Darlene Hanover were the winners) in her last two starts out of town and wasn’t terrible in either; finished a good second in the start prior, here in the Continentalvictory.
2 BILLIE CLAIRE Faces a handful of horses who have far more firepower that she does; needs a softer spot.
3 CARUSO Tried to win last from off the pace as the even-money choice; figures to revert to his front-end ways, which led to a victory three weeks ago.
4 BALENCIAGA Shows a powerhouse Meadowlands win on his card on July 31; has been going up against some tough foes in all starts since and should be able to work out a close-to-the-action type of trip tonight.
5 ZENITH STRIDE Throughout his career, has been able to cash plenty of big checks in big races while not winning all that often. Can he beat these? Yes. Will he be overbet either way? Yes.
6 SHADRACK HANOVER Burke student impressed rallying to just miss in a similar spot in his seasonal debut a week ago; could prove good enough to beat these despite his seasonal inexperience.
7 AP HALL OF TRIX Pulled off a big upset at odds of 59-1 at Chester; tough to imagine he has another one of those types of efforts on tap shipping in to The Big M.
8 SEVEN NATION ARMY Interesting longshot was less than a length behind the winner at the finish of his Meadowlands return; doesn’t show a lot of speed from posts like this but will likely need some to get involved in here.
9 ROBERT’S HANOVER Added the trotting hobbles and made it to the lead from post six last week before settling for finishing a close-up fourth; if he makes it to the point from this outside post, he could go all the way this time around.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 4-5-2-6

1 GEEZ JOE Came back to earth some at the NW$17,500 level in last after a good-looking win from off the pace with weaker; beating this group won’t be easy but there are only three in here who are obviously better than him right now.
2 DE LOS CIELOS DEO Had no trouble thrashing weaker two back; this race is an interesting puzzle because a horse like this, who can leave and make the half in :54.1 (like he did in that win) is a threat in an abbreviated field.
3 MONTEFALCO N Looked awfully good in winning his last two but I’m not sure he has the resume to go with these.
4 MAJOR BETTS Has been in with serious stock in his last three at Yonkers and performed at a high level; Jenn Bongiorno trainee is the classiest of these based on his last three starts versus Vettel N and Twin B Tuffenuff. Trainer: I could not be happier with the way this horse has performed since he came to our barn. He’s extremely consistent, raced well Monday and is right back in tonight. His qualifier was great and I think the race could set up well for him with his style.
5 VETTEL N More good Bongiorno stock was nothing short of marvelous while beating this kind in last two, both times paying off well for his backers; shocks no one if he completes the natural hat trick. Trainer: What can you say? He’s the King of the 100 claimers right now. Vinny has driven him perfectly two starts in a row and lands a perfect spot tonight to race from either on or off the pace.
6 TWIN B TUFFENUFF Forgot to check the tote board when he missed a nose at 36-1; Burke student could (obviously) take all but the price will be far smaller than a week ago.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 7-9-5-8

1 PLAY TRIX ON ME Recent Lasix adder hasn’t done well in recent starts but did show speed from the 10 hole in last before wilting and that may prove to be the first step to his getting his act back together.
2 HOCKEY HANOVER Held sway to the wire going all the way from post nine last week with far weaker; does not appear up to this task but does draw a much-improved post.
3 ANGEL NATION Steady sort might be forgotten on the big board but has enough class to compete with these and has won five-of-11 starts this year for Team Orange Crush.
4 PAPPY GO GO Andrew Harris student is a personal favorite who’s won his share of Big M races and will again after he does some improving.
5 AMIGO VOLO Remember him? The Breeders Crown, Kentucky Futurity and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion from 2020 has had a rough go of it thus far in 2021 but added Lasix for his last start, then waited two months before qualifying well, finishing second to Sonofamistery. Is that enough to beat these? I don’t know. Trainer: He’s coming back from a long break. He has trained back great but may need a race.
6 SWAN IN MOTION Razor-sharp sort has a sizeable class mountain to climb tonight.
7 DOUBLE ACCOUNT Finished a not-all-that-bad sixth and fifth, respectively, in his last two starts with the Open types; start prior was at this level and he missed a neck in an excellent effort.
8 RICH AND MISERABLE His last five starts show the risks involved with betting this horse: Two good-looking wins and a close-up third to go along with two races where he went off stride just after the start; your move.
9 BACK OF THE NECK Not all that competitive in the Maple Leaf and Cashman but beat high-end Pocono stock three back and was an OK fifth here when Chin Chin Hall was winning the feature last week; this field is talented enough where Svanstedt can expect to pick up some live cover from this outside post.
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 4-6-1-2

1 GOOD ROCKIN Did well to miss a neck to Geez Joe three starts back when in at this level; made up a ton of ground in the final quarter a week ago to get second to an impressive winner; faces good ones in here but has a puncher’s chance.
2 HEZA REAL DIAMOND Has hit the board in four straight but has lost some friends along the way, failing three times as the public choice; might prove sharp enough to play with these and does not figure to take tons of money.
3 BILLY BADGER N Another with good form but hasn’t raced at The Meadowlands in recent history, which could prove to be a disadvantage.
4 DEALER’S TABLE Maybe he wasn’t particularly close in either of Vettel N’s impressive wins in last two, but he wasn’t terrible, either; figures to wake up in a big way in this spot.
5 FATHER NUNO Doesn’t figure to take a lot of money, but like the two horses who have drawn inside, has enough form to possibly make some noise.
6 STONE HANOVER Returned from a sick-scratch with a fine try, finishing a close second after surging to the lead at the top of the lane.
7 LIFEONTHEBEACH A In keeping with the rest of this field, this one also has some good form and looks like he fits with these; since there isn’t tons of speed in here, might he try to fire to the lead at the start?
12 Twelfth Race Entries
Picks: 6-4-1-2
H Horse Comment
1 NIMAH FRANCO N Since her romp at Chester as the 1-5 chalk in her first North American start, she probably hasn’t lived up to the expectations of some; tonight will likely go a long way in telling us what kind of horse she truly is.
2 BEST HONEY HANOVER It’s not obvious by any means that the Preferred Handicap at Freehold is better than the NW$6,000 level at The Meadowlands so betting her as a favorite may not be the best way to go in this competitive field.
3 VH PRINCESS BREA She’s performed well in last two but the last time she raced here at this level, she was sent to the gate at odds of 97-1, so I have my doubts.
4 SO NICE HANOVER Took the field past the half and three-quarters on the lead but ended up seventh in the race won last week by Staycation Hanover, who would be a heavy favorite were she in this field; a major player. Trainer: An honest mare who is a good closer that is doing well.
5 DOUBLEOFFTHEWALL Her form isn’t bad but she lacks the class to make her a contender.
6 BETALADY Made the lead and won for fun at Chester before being taken down; key line is the start prior when she was a fast-closing, close-up third from post eight after being bet down to 5-2; this looks like the right spot. Trainer: Has been a little unlucky of late and is in a very friendly spot.
7 SWEET TALKER Has enough class to merit a look when playing the 10-cent Hi-5 since she’s always a big price.
8 CHUPPAH ON Worked out a pocket trip for a third straight start in last and registered her second win during the stretch; she couldn’t work out another two-hole trip, could she?
9 GOTTALOVEMYSHADOW Blasted down the road from this post a week ago but wasn’t facing a field nearly as talented.
