After signing a long-term lease of the Meadowlands Racetrack this week, new track operator Jeff Gural has reached an agreement with its teller union.

Gural signed a 30-year lease to operate the Meadowlands on December 20 and will assume operational control of the facility on December 24.  The deal with Local 137 AFL-CIO, the track’s largest union, comes as preparations are made to start the 2012 harness meet on Friday, January 6.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with our tellers as we look forward to the start of our live season,” said Gural, a New York real estate developer and racing entrepreneur.  “We’ve made good progress with all of our unions and expect to resolve any outstanding labor issues before the New Year.

“We have a terrific workforce who has agreed to make financial sacrifices in order to keep the Meadowlands open and we look forward to working together to help make the Meadowlands a fun place to visit.”

The 81-date harness meet at the Meadowlands will run through Saturday, August 18, with two additional dates next December.  Post time is 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, through the first half of the season.  For a racing schedule, go to MeadowlandsRacetrack.com.
