Scott Zeron, the 2012 Rising Star Award winner will make the Meadowlands his home beginning with the Grand Opening of the new facility on Saturday November 23rd. Zeron will make the transition to the United States and will be a Meadowlands regular for the upcoming meet.
Zeron, who became the youngest driver in history to reach 2000 wins on March 21st of this past year, said that this was not an easy decision. “This was difficult for me,” said Zeron. “Canadian racing has been my home and it’s not going to be easy leaving. But I have to do what is best for the longevity of my career and I think heading to the (United) States, specifically the move to the Meadowlands is the best thing for my career.”
Zeron already has his name on one of harness racing’s most coveted prizes, The Little Brown Jug which he won in 2012 with Michael’s Power. He was the youngest driver to ever win that prestigious event. “I got to drive a horse that I drove regularly in Canada on a big stage and I think it showed people what I can do and that I can drive with the best. The Meadowlands is iconic and it means a lot to me to become a part of that driving colony.”
Despite the excitement Zeron feels in getting to drive at the track he referred to as “iconic,” leaving home won’t be easy. “Canadian racing made me who I am, it has given me every opportunity to succeed and I am forever grateful for that. It has been home and leaving that home makes things extremely tough on me. I want to thank everyone in Canada that gave me an opportunity.”
While Zeron admitted he is taking on a new challenge and in a way is starting over, he’ll get a little help from his friends. “I’ll have to work my way up and do it picking up catch drives, but there are some American trainers that I have driven for, like Frank Antonacci who I think will give me opportunities. Tony Alagna is another trainer that I think I will do some work for as well.”
To get a head-start on the meet, Zeron will be coming down to New Jersey this week to get himself situated and is looking forward to seeing the new facility. “I am coming down there this week and I can’t wait to see this new building. I hope I can get a tour from Mr. Gural.” Zeron will begin touring the Big M oval on a regular basis starting November 23rd.
