Picks: 6-5-1-9
H Horse Comment
1 LIGHT BLUE MOVERS Got bet off the board (even-money) and stayed flat for a change, but ended up a no-chance fourth with this kind in last. Likely to take money again, yet you may want to leave him off your tickets.
2 MARVELOUSTRIX One win in 45 lifetime starts but actually has a class edge on most of these., which does not speak highly of this field.
3 BLUFFINNER Lone win of the season came here at The Meadowlands in a fast 1:54.1. His last three aren’t much but he could show more tonight.
4 COCONUT KATE Broke before the start at this level at odds of 39-1 and has failed to finish first or second in 10 seasonal starts. Not for me.
5 QUESTICHAP Emerged from the pocket to record an easy win last week. Smedshammer trainee may turn out to be a Meadowlands lover.
6 BEYOND ORDINARY Lifted his game in his last two starts with a close second at Harrah’s Philadelphia and a constructive third here at The Meadowlands. Draws well for his off-the-pace style.
7 HUNTING AS Took plenty of money in last two at Pocono and could not deliver, going off stride early in each. If you’re willing to gamble he’ll stay flat, there should be some value here.
8 GROSSETO AS Did well to rally for second upon arrival here for Anette Lorentzon. Dangerous should he go another live-cover trip.
9 CAFÉ AMERICANO Great fit in this field from a class perspective but it appears it will be difficult for him to get involved from this outside post. Third-over trip?
10 ROGER RABBIT Arguably the sharpest horse in this field showed speed from the eight hole in last but I do not see him making it to the lead from post position 10.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 5-1-6-4
H Horse Comment
1 SOUTHWIND PETYR Normally, 2-year-olds don’t beat older foes, but this one appears capable. Trainer: Green colt lost on the front last start. Raced well at Vernon. Expecting better.
2 VIPER Uncompetitive in both betting starts this year, going off stride in both. Has an awful lot of improving to do to threaten with any class.
3 I’M NO PANSY Sent off at 78-1 in his most recent betting start on July 6, finished ninth. Another who appears to be overmatched.
4 MAKE AMERICA GREAT Used hard in sixth-place finish at Saratoga on Tuesday as the 8-5 favorite. Possesses eight on-the-board finishes from 10 seasonal starts.
5 ATOMIC BLAST N Overmatched last week at The Big M but gets some class relief and has beaten better at Harrah’s Philadelphia as recently as Sept. 7.
6 WELL DONE SON Beat non-winners of one at Pocono in mid-August but has not been competitive in the three starts since facing similar to what he faces tonight.
7 BULLVILLE TERROR Sports record of zero wins from 19 starts. Has gone off at long odds in all recent starts and is tough to recommend.
8 ACES ROCK One-for-sixteen lifetime, hasn’t been close in a long time at long odds and is yet another who’s tough to use in talent-challenged field.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 5-2-3-9
H Horse Comment
1 SLATED TO WIN Has been racing with limited success at The Meadows with non-winners of five races. One would think he’d wake up in the non-winners of $2,500.
2 CORDOBA HALL Raced well in three straight at Saratoga with what appears to be better stock than what he faces here. Jordan Derue trainees always merit watching at The Big M.
3 INXS Circled up three-wide to come close with this kind upon arrival from Saratoga. Might be rounding into form at just the right time.
4 EXUBERANCE Raced first-up to beat low-end Freehold foes in 2:01.1, which is a mile time that will not cut it in this field.
5 BIODETTI HANOVER Made a big move to the lead, ended up a respectable fourth facing better at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Drops to the bottom conditioned class for Big M return.
6 DEO Has yet to hit the board in 13 starts this season. It may be time to take some time off and then start back fresh in a few weeks.
7 IF I MUST Easy winner at Freehold after some unsuccessful starts with better than what he faces tonight. Still not certain that Freehold win will prepare him to be competitive with these.
8 DEEP IMPACT Did not make much of a ripple in the water in his last two facing this kind of stock and does not look prepared to beat these at this time.
9 MUAY HANOVER Raced more than credibly in two straight, so this one is on the comeback trail. The post position is a big problem, however.
10 WISHYOU’DTELLME Has raced well in three straight, but those were against weaker than what he faces tonight. Tough spot from post position 10.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 3-1-4-8
H Horse Comment
1 THEREISAPACEFORUS Gets some class relief after racing at an uncompetitive level in three in a row. Victory at Yonkers four back was as the 2-5 choice against slightly better foes.
2 MITCH MAGUIRE N Took a trip to Nowheresville from post eight a week ago, but some players had interest (6-1). Could come back with a much-improved effort.
3 WHITTAKER N Veteran is the kind of horse who takes advantage of his opportunities. One of those exists tonight with the drop in class.
4 WESTERN HILL Rallied for third at Yonkers despite having drawn post eight. Put up a more-than-respectable effort in the start prior right here – albeit against cheaper – when a close third. Can go with these.
5 SOSSY’S KING KONG Lone bad effort in his last four was from post nine with stronger stock. Despite bad win percentage (seven-for-142 lifetime), he can get a piece in here.
6 YOU SAID IT Last four are an indicator that this one is in the midst of a dull form cycle, but he did close in :27.4 a week ago and might be competitive were he to face cheaper next week.
7 WILLIE BOOTS His form has also been trending down with three straight efforts that leave much to be desired but he did race well here as recently as July.
8 MORE THE BETTER N Went four-wide at three-quarters in tough-trip sixth in return from a two-month layoff after taking plenty of green (5-2). Possibilities. Trainer: I liked how he performed in his last start. He fits well with this group.
9 P L LEEROY After winning two in a row at Tioga in August, he has done little to get noticed in the three starts since. Draws poorly. Bad spot.
10 FORTY FIVE RED Delaware invader drew the dreaded eight hole on a half-mile track in last two and wasn’t all that bad. Might be one to consider down the road.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 5-8-2-6
H Horse Comment
1 CHASE YOU Added Lasix and rolled past lesser at Yonkers three weeks ago. Was in too deep in last. This spot could prove to be just right.
2 TALL POPPY N Another recent Lasix adder who drops into a spot softer than she’s seen in some time. Contender from Kelvin Harrison.
3 SHELLIE DE VIE Might need a race after being on the shelf for the last six weeks. A good fit with this kind but needs to be sharper than what I anticipate she’ll be tonight.
4 RAPUNZEL BLUE CHIP Rallied to finish an OK fourth at this level after tangling with tough New York Sire Stakes types most of the season.
5 SANDY’S BEACH Crushed better than this at Yonkers three back before two bad posts at The Hilltop led to less-than-spectacular finishes. Capable of beating these.
6 WISHY WASHY GIRL Mark Harder student has been sharp in three straight starts, including three back, when she almost took better all the way at YR.
7 MANHATTAN PLAY Another with good current form in a field with plenty of good current form. It’s unclear what she’ll do when the gate springs, but in a competitive field, racing from the back with cover could be the way to go.
8 TANGO DANCER N Classy sort from Kelvin Harrison put up a seasonal-best of 1:50.4 right here at The Big M earlier in the season. Another that merits a long look.
9 TWINSBURG The post-position draw was unkind to this one but her current form says she can compete with this kind. The problem: She may end up fourth-over.
10 WHITEHAVEN LASS A Beat cheaper in last to up her seasonal stats to six wins from 12 starts. Sharp but where will she be at the three-eighths pole?
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 1-7-8-9
H Horse Comment
1 ROCKIN THE ACES New Jersey Sire Stakes standout hit the reset button two starts back and has responded with a pair of easy wins. Takes on better but is still racing at a level where he can win for fun.
2 GRIFFON HANOVER Stayed inside to grab fourth in the race where Palomar followed perfect cover to win. Might be good enough to hang around for a big slice in here.
3 FRANCO TOTEM N Things have not gone well in recent starts for this Nifty Norman student, who was racing with far better earlier in the year. His form is likely to cycle back up again.
4 STONEDUST When this one is right, he can own this kind, but right now, he needs to get back to work and get back in form. Not tonight.
5 A MAJOR OMEN Nailed Griffon Hanover to end up in a dead heat for win when last seen two weeks ago. Does possess some back class and should be included in your exotics.
6 WILLIAM MCWHISKERS Going off stride in two straight races does little to instill confidence. Might be better suited to the half-mile track, since he won at Yonkers on August 18.
7 LIVE LIKE A BOSS Displayed speed at both ends of the mile when third in similar spot from a similar post. Figures to be firing away from the gate again.
8 BANK SEA Simply had too much work to do when ninth but did pace his final quarter in :26.3. Might get a pace scenario tonight in which he can do damage with a similar kick home.
9 BRACKEN STORM A Aussie imports always must be considered when they make their North American parimutuel debuts, but this is a tough post, so watch the tote board before acting.
10 ISLANDSPECIALMAJOR Trainer Shane Tritton could have a good one here. Finished a solid second upon arrival at The Meadowlands, but given where he’s drawn, you may want to consider him next week in a better spot.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 1-2-4-9
H Horse Comment
1 LASA DIDA LADY Morgan student has crushed her foes in two straight. Faces some classy foes in here but is clearly the most formful and is strictly the one to beat.
2 THUNDER Took the money with better than this in last and broke for a second straight start. Trainer: He seems to enjoy me bringing him to qualifiers. Dexter said he got shifted to the left shaft so we are adding a gaiting pole.
3 HENDERSON SEELSTER Went a brutal trip from post seven on the way to a sixth-place finish with better foes at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Could show more in this spot.
4 PAT MATTERS Did she or didn’t she race in the Miss Versatility on Thursday at Delaware? I did not know at press time. On Sept. 4, she shows a big win with considerably better at Yonkers.so she does look like a good fit.
5 SUMATRA Beat up on lesser at Freehold but does not appear to have a big shot at a winner’s circle visit based on the talent level of others in this field.
6 HATIKVAH Last three efforts put her right there with this group. Last was especially impressive, when a close second after going parked out for the final half-mile at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
7 INFINITI AS Plenty of class but current form and steady unpopularity at the windows tell me we have to take a wait-and-see approach.
8 HL REVADON Can clearly compete with this kind but is not the type of horse who can do good things from outside posts.
9 REIGN OF HONOR Gelded son of Father Patrick has faced some serious horses this year (Guardian Angel As and Gimpanzee, to name two) and performed at a respectable level. Might have been my top choice had he drawn better.
8 Eigth Race Entries

1 DEEDENUTO A Down Under shipper got his feet wet at Freehold from a tough spot. Could be a winner here soon but I don’t think he’s ready to do that tonight.
2 SOLO STORY Going through a brutal streak of bad posts in four of his last five, but he failed to bring it when he drew the rail two back. Let’s see what happens tonight before we use this one.
3 LAST GUNFIGHTER Destroyed cheaper going parked past the quarter in :27 before firing down the pike from there in a lifetime-best 1:50.3. Takes on better but that does not mean he cannot beat this group.
4 CALVIN B Established his lifetime-best of 1:49.2 five years ago at The Big M. He’s obviously not that kind of horse now but once he gets back in shape, he is capable with this kind.
5 SOHO CHELSEA A Made a huge move down the backside to get noticed last week before weakening and finishing eighth. Drops in class. Could be there at a nice price.
6 SEEING EYE SINGLE Does his best work from off the pace. He might not be at this best right now but he does drop in class off a good effort in which he closed in :26.3. Trainer: Was sharp last week. Expecting good effort.
7 TOPVILLE OLYMPIAN Gets some class relief but his current form is not good. In softer spot than he’s seen in a long time and should show some improvement.
8 IM A DIRECTOR N Nice try at this level when second to lock-city Rockin The Aces. Post is a bummer but might be sharp enough to get a good spot early. Keep an eye on this one.
9 WORLD ON EDGE Closed from way back to get a nice check in Meadowlands return but will need some live cover to make noise in here.
10 FRANCO TRISTAN N Did cop a check with this kind upon arrival, but that was from the three hole and tonight it’s post position 10.
9 Ninth Race Entries

1 RESPECT OUR FLAG Faced some extremely tough customers in the four starts since his superb two-move score in 1:50 at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Trainer: Versatile horse who finally drops in class. Having a really good week.
2 LIKE CLOCKWORK Finished a close third to Allywag Hanover when in search of a third straight score. Razor-sharp Abbatiello trainee is worth using in the Late 20-cent Pick-5.
3 TRUMP NATION Did not go the best of trips yet still ended up second in nice try with cheaper. High seasonal money-earner in the field has gone up against far better than this during 2020.
4 BLOOD LINE Iron-tough veteran is one of two in this field whose lifetime earnings are in excess of $500,000. Trainer: Has been very consistent. Good finish from off the pace. Looking for another solid effort.
5 ROCK THE DEVIL Another talented veteran. Sat the pocket and beat this kind at Philly before coming back with a good second to U S Captain, who won here in 1:49.2.
6 DA DELIGHTFUL Silva trainee has not done good work in last two against Freehold’s best. The problem is, this group is stronger than those.
7 ANA AFREET N Seems to do better work in the City of Brotherly Love then here but always takes money and might have explosive late pace with the proper pace scenario.
8 SAYING GRACE N Cullipher student is off a solid try at Philly with similar stock. He’s been involved in some fast Hoosier miles this year and might be worth throwing into your Trifectas.
9 GRAND TETON Finished an unthreatening sixth in his 2020 debut facing better foes. Ryder trainee will likely use this one to prep for the weeks to come.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 3-10-2-6
H Horse Comment
1 IDEAL FEELING Jim King Jr. always brings his horses to town ready to go. This one might be a touch class inferior when compared to some in here but remains one who can win it all.
2 JESSE DUKE N Missed a head to Filibuster Hanover when that one took the Aug. 8 Sam McKee in 1:49.1. Three starts since weren’t much but he gets some class relief here.
3 U S CAPTAIN Beat this kind from just off the pace with a :26.4 kicker last week and this Tony Alagna trainee could beat them again with a similar trip. Trainer: Great effort working out a trip behind Angers Bayama last week.
4 WES DELIGHT Had little trouble beating lesser on Sept. 19. Uncompetitive with this type three starts back but that was the race where Highalator was out of his mind in victory.
5 THE DEVILS OWN N Faced far better in his last two starts and failed to cash a check in either. Tough-trip fourth at The Big M with lesser Aug. 1. Tough to figure.
6 COVERED BRIDGE Weakened after going to the half in a taxing :53.3 facing this kind. In this field, might be the last one to the lead.
7 SPRINGSTEEN Has plenty of pace as his season’s-best 1:48.1 on Aug. 1 proves but he does not have the class of a handful in here.
8 HARAMBE DEO Will he fire home to record an upset win, as he did two back at 33-1? Or will he have too much to do from the back of the pack and fail to cash a check. Tough to say.
9 SLICK TONY Has been destroying them in Delaware, having won three straight at Harrington. He might be up to this down the road, but not tonight from post nine.
10 HIGHALATOR Fan favorite was incredible winning his last start on Sept. 5 at The Meadowlands in 1:49 from post eight. Can he overcome post 10 and win, as he did earlier this year?
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 1-3-4-7
H Horse Comment
1 DE LOS CIELOS DEO Exploded home in :25.4 to get an elusive win after consecutive failures as the post-time choice. Bumps up in class but could prove ready for more. Trainer: Career sharp horse and driver.
2 DECISION DAY Consistent sort hasn’t done a lot of winning lately. His effort in last was as bad as he’s been in a long time but he could rebound with an improved post.
3 LOVE THE BLUES N Last won when he faced one-rung cheaper than what he faces today but that does not mean he has no chance in evenly-matched field.
4 THE FIRST STEP Raced well in three in a row until bumping way up last week. Back at a level where he can win for the Burke Brigade. Trainer: No chance last week. Will look to get involved this time.
5 PALOMAR Got his preferred trip and paced past them all last week. Takes on a far better field in here and an awful lot would have to go his way tonight to make noise.
6 PASSA-GRILLE BEACH Beat similar at Yonkers on Aug. 14 as the favorite. Beat similar at Philly on Sept. 7 as the favorite. Might be forgotten at the windows tonight but has proven he can do it at this level.
7 ANOTHER DAILY COPY Sat off a fast half and closed with a rush to beat cheaper at Pocono. Hard to imagine things going that well tonight but this is a real horse who’s gone 1:48.4 at Pocono earlier this year.
8 OHOKA JOHNNY N Missed a few weeks since an uncompetitive eighth at Yonkers, albeit with better stock. Fits well with these and may be firing away from the gate.
9 IN ROCK WE TRUST This spot appears to be a bit tough for this Irish Joe Hanney trainee but is likely to be raced from the back and if the pace falls down, watch out.
12 Twelfth Race Entries
Picks: 6-4-7-8
H Horse Comment
1 EDEN PAIGE N Shows a Meadowlands win from just off the pace on Sept. 11, but that was against a weaker field. Not in the winning spot.
2 AMARETTIGONE Didn’t do all that well at Saratoga on Tuesday and finds herself in a field where there are a handful of good ones.
3 SCWARTZ BROS BEATY Nothing good has happened in any of her last five starts. Will need some class relief before starting to get her act back together.
4 CHARMS LITTLE SIS Came close as the favorite last week, which was her second straight good effort. Could provide some value in this spot.
5 FOLLOWTHEWIND N Performed respectably in this race a week ago from post nine. Leaves from the five hole tonight and might pull off an upset with some help from the pace scenario.
6 EXOTIC DANCE Red-hot Jennifer Bongiorno trainee seeks her fourth-straight win. Too sharp right now to pick against. Trainer: Our little overachiever has been doing great work. I expect Joe to follow his normal tactics tonight.
7 NARCIAN JEWEL Possesses some current form but lacks class against this bunch. Bill Mann does have a knack, however, for getting good trips with this one and occasionally rocks the apple cart.
8 CAY’S BLESSING Drops out of the Open Handicap at Saratoga, so class is not the problem here. Does she have enough early speed to work out a close-to-the-action type of trip? Maybe.
9 BRONSKIMACKENZIE A Has not been close in any recent outings but those were against far better stock. Let the tote board be your guide.
13 Thirteenth Race Entries
Picks: 9-5-3-8
H Horse Comment
1 DEMOCRACY N There are a handful of horses in here who have good current form but this one isn’t among them. Only has one win in his last 54 tries.
2 SHATTERED GLASS Showed some early speed when last seen two weeks ago but ended up ninth in sub-par try. Another you can exclude.
3 WHATSTROUBLNUROCKY Doesn’t win too many (as his one-for-16 record this year proves) but has done well in two in a row out of town and should be in your Pentafecta combinations.
4 MR MCDREAMY Hasn’t provided much firepower of late but does draw an improved post. One that longshot players should consider to fill out tickets.
5 IMAGEOFAROCKER Shows a win and a close-up second in his last two starts at The Meadowlands and tonight draws a much-improved post when compared to both of those starts.
6 WESTERN REDHOT Surprised a cheaper field with an inside trip Sept. 12, but it doesn’t appear that he can hack it at this level, at least right now.
7 PAPIAMENTO Another that raced well with lesser in his last two outings. Would improve his chances in a big way were he to leave the gate as he did in last.
8 MR CARROTTS Closed like crazy when at The Big M on Sept. 12 to finish second at 10-1. Not a perfect fit class-wise here but might be gobbling up ground in the final eighth of a mile.
9 LYON’S IMAGE Shows a win and a solid third in his last two starts with this kind. Figures to be firing from the gate at the start and keep rolling around Turn 1.
10 ANCLE This is not the right spot. Hasn’t been all that good with non-winners of $2,500 in his last three, and now draws the 10-hole facing better.
