Race Reviews For Saturday, July 06, 2013

1 First Race Entries
Picks: 3-2-1-6
H Horse Comment
1 BEAT THE DRUM ($17,000 – LEX-SEL) Chased down ‘Doo Wop in the stretch last week and looked good doing it. Nice looking colt.
2 SWEET ROCK ($65,000 – HBG) Chased a good won while favored over ‘Vintage last time. Still think this freshman has a nice future.
3 WESTERN VINTAGE ($7,000 – LEX-SEL) Couldn’t have been more impressive upon debut. Gingras gets the call now. The favorite.
4 ODDS ON RHODONITE (Homebred) I didn’t particularly like his action in his first 2 starts, but he was better last time. Still in tough now.
5 CAVIART CHASE (Homebred) Not a bad pari-mutuel debut last time but this son of Tell All will need to improve to contend in here.
6 DOO WOP HANOVER ($52,000 – HBG) Already making his 4th pari-mutuel start and he raced well, but was collared last time. Include.
7 UNADORNED HANOVER ($4,500 – HBG) Callahan opted here over ‘Caviart but this gelding will have to pick it up quite a bit from here.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 3-1-2-4
H Horse Comment
1 SHARK LEAP HANOVER ($10,000 – HBG) Saunders bringing this Cam’s Card Shark colt along slowly. Might get more aggressive here.
2 ROCK N ROLL LEGACY (Homebred) Not a terrible first pari-mutuel start for a patient barn. Another that has a right to improve now.
3 IN THE CLEAR ($50,000 – HBG) Looks like an overwhelming favorite in this field. Exits a strong race and simply looks too fast right now.
4 DRAGON WINGS (Hombered) Took a tour of the oval last time while beaten nearly a dozen. The move to Tetrick is a little interesting.
5 ROCKEYED OPTIMIST ($10,000 – HBG) Has only been in 1:59.2 so far, so this colt is going to have to step things up a bit from here.
6 ROCK ABSORBER ($19,000 – HBG) Showed good speed last time, but tired. Pierce opted off, too. Expect a change in tactics now.
7 BOTTEGA ($10,000 – HBG) Has not been close as of yet and I will wait to see if he continues to develop at this point.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 4-5-6-8
H Horse Comment
1 MEETBEHINDTHEBARN First of several class droppers here. Never made the gate last time, though. Just 1 for 11. Very tough call.
2 WORLD CUP CULLEN Couldn’t handle a very tough nw3 field last time and is back down to a better spot, although this is a tough nw2.
3 STIMULUS PLAN Enters this affair off a good looking win, but that was a much softer field than what he is facing now. Tough task.
4 SHARK TREASURE Those are back to back solid efforts and he caught a nice horse last time. I think he is a must-use on all tickets.
5 TALKING BLUES Showed good speed at Tioga, but faded in the stretch. Gelding is still coming around and I expect even better here.
6 SIR MICHIGAN Z TAM Broke when trying to get away from the gate last time. This horse has talent and note he was 3/5 in that field.
7 ROCK N AHARD PLACE Beaten by Stimulus Plan last time and if I rate that one a longshot, then this is obviously a longshot as well.
8 ALWAYS THERE Seemed to make progress through The Survivor Series. Still, catches a tough group here and is now 1 for 17 lifetime.
9 I C D MOOLAH Moved to The Burke Brigade for NYSS action, but he wasn’t exactly tearing it up at this level in Canada. Needs more.
10 GRATIAS DEO Seems to be struggling of late and catches a pretty salty group, so I have to think that he is up against it again.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 6-5-3-1
H Horse Comment
1 I NEED HOTSTUFF ($107,000 – HBG) Shuffled back and he was finishing pretty well. Ryder turns to Tetrick now and she will be closer.
2 THIS CHICK ROCKS (Homebred) Yet to have another horse in front of her. That is likely to change at some point of this mile. Maybe.
3 ROCKINGCAM PARK ($7,500 – HBG) Chased down ‘Bolt last time and was quite impressive doing it as well. Looks like a total steal!
4 SURFSIDE SEXY ($35,000 – HBG) Took a tour of the track last time and now Harder turns to Pierce. Expect a more aggressive drive.
5 BOLT OF THUNDER (Homebred) Did everything but win last week, and there was nothing wrong with her effort. Clearly has ability.
6 DANIELLES ALL ACES ($22,000 – HBG) Chased a dominant filly last time, so keep that in mind. She has a big shot to breakthrough here.
7 MAGNIFIQUE ($4,000 – LEX-SEL) Hasn’t been close in either start so far, so it is tough to predict a turnaround just yet.
8 ROSIE DE VIE ($60,000 – LEX-SEL) Nothing wrong with her final quarter last week, but she is likely to get away last so she is in tough.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 2-5-6-7
H Horse Comment
1 ROCKNROLL JEWEL Racing consistently well lately, but he is moving back a level that was too tough for him on 5/18. Fringe player.
2 LAWGIVER HANOVER Finished a very close 2nd at this level a few starts back and now he gets Tetrick back as well. Things to like.
3 MIGHTY YOUNG JOE Had no chance last week and now moves inside. Likely to be sent off at a juicy price, and I will use him in exotics.
4 DRUMFIRE A Winless streak has reached 13 now and his form recently has not been sharp. I will watch for signs of improvement.
5 SIR MELO’S Z TAM This is a pretty big move down in class from that nw25000 and he was finishing that mile well. The one to beat.
6 MR MASSIMO Good to see Massimo back! This horse was an open-type when last seen, but hasn’t raced in 18 months. See how he looks!
7 RELENTLESS DREAMER Always comes with some type of rally. Some weeks are stronger than others. But, he can never be dismissed.
8 TY’S A BIG STAR He has really tailed off since winning his way out of that nw5000 level at Yonkers. I think this race is too tough.
9 BUCKEYE IN CHARGE Stepping up off a win and he has won here before. But, this is a tougher field than he normally faces.
10 REDNECK OUTLAW Caramore winner is moving up the ladder as that was a C-2 series. Ginsburg must get him off the gate quickly.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 6-1A-3-7
H Horse Comment
1 HUGADRAGON Hard to be in better form that this gelding. He had a big 3YO season and seems to be back on top of his game.
1A FOILED AGAIN The $5 Million Man showed courage and grit winning The Franklin last week. Poised to get an overdue win at The Big M!
2 GOLDEN RECEIVER He has stopped badly in his last two starts and Tetrick has opted elsewhere. I will watch for a hint of a form reversal.
3 WARRAWEE NEEDY Boy, did he look good in that Gold Cup Invitational. I think we will see more speed this time around. Major player.
4 A ROCKNROLL DANCE Meadowlands Pace hero is coming off an awesome qualifier, but he has been overmatched at this level this year.
5 SAPPHIRE CITY Respect this gelding, but I feel this is just too much for him. He is probably a cut below the best FFA Pacers.
6 HESTON BLUE CHIP You are not beating Bolt The Duer with a pocket trip like last week, so don’t be too hard on him. Win candidate.
7 RAZZLE DAZZLE Shocked that his regular pilot didn’t make the trip to drive him. Especially after a big effort in The Franklin. Contender.
8 OUR LUCKY CHIP Put forth a great mile in his Franklin Elimination, but had to scratch from the Final. Tough to land in his corner.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 1-7-4-2
H Horse Comment
1 HILLBILLY HANOVER No shame in finishing a close third to Mickey Hanover. This is the right level for him. A major contender again.
2 MONTREAL PHIL Winner of last is racing in The Haughton. Prior form was excellent and he should offer believers a good price here.
3 PANESTHETIC That was some kind of effort he put forth last week. He is facing a stronger group this time, but I do like the driver switch.
4 HOLDINGALLTHECARDS Got back to his winning ways last time and a sub-1:52 mile at Yonkers is big. Back on top of his game.
5 ERLE DALE N Tetrick opts to the foe to his inside. This gelding is in decent form and shows a recent sub-1:50 win, too. Tough call.
6 BONDY N Tough to call a horse coming off an impressive 1:50.2 win a longshot, but this field is so tough, he is probably in tough.
7 VERSADO Congratulations to the new millionaire. He has a class edge on many of these and he rates a very long look in this loaded field.
8 VOICE OF TRUTH What a rally last week as he got by Panesthetic late. Again, this field will be tougher, but that was a big rally.
9 PENCE HANOVER Looking at the top-2 finishers at Tioga, that was just an OK Open. He should have been better. No short price for me.
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 6-4-1-8
H Horse Comment
1 FRED AND GINGER The leader in the TVG FFA Pacing Series with 70 points tailed off a bit lately. Draws well and can rebound here.
1A DYNAMIC YOUTH Will they use his speed from this wide draw in a race with a lot of early foot? McCarthy is in a tough spot from here.
2 ARACACHE HANOVER He can leave a ton if Campbell chooses, but not sure that is the best tactic here. Likely sits in and tows along.
3 BETTOR’S EDGE Brutal trip in The Franklin, but he raced really well in that mile. That said, he finds himself in a tough group now.
4 BOLT THE DUER Matched his own world record out of the pocket last time. Macdonald will be looking for a similar scenario here. Lookout!
5 UP THE CREDIT Good to see him back in with the bug boys. Curious to see what Jamieson does, as he has a perfect post. Has options.
6 PET ROCK Love the way he has come back and I think Miller finds himself in a very live outer flow from here. The one to hold off late.
7 HURRIKANE KINGCOLE They have been able to control him better in the mile, and I still think at some point, he will put it all together.
8 SWEET LOU He just has not been himself the last three starts after racing huge to start the year. Widest post isn’t going to help him here.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 3-6-1-9
H Horse Comment
1 ALL SPEED HANOVER His trip to Mohawk just did not work out. Raced very well here in a fast mile prior to that. Pierce’s choice of four.
2 MYSTERIOUS MOMENT He has been in some tough races lately and that win on 6/15 looks pretty good. Worth including in gimmicks.
3 WHIRL MONROE I think he has been over his head lately and remember, this is the level he took his lifetime mark in. Things to like.
4 MAJOR BELLE Has been doing enough to pick up checks lately and have to think Andy takes back and tries to make one late move.
5 WEE BROTHER N Recent form is just not sharp and he will need to turn things around if he were to contend in this group.
6 BOLERO ANDREW He had plenty of pace in that last mile and it was against better. A deserving favorite that will be very tough here.
7 GAMBLER’S TALE Enters this off a win, but it was against a much softer field than this, so I rate him a longshot in this group.
8 MCCLELLAND He is coming out of a very tough race and he was finishing with some pace as well. Not without a chance in here.
9 BREAKIN THE LAW He has been racing quite well recently and this is a slight move down the class ladder. I can see him winning this.
10 TWINCREEKS JESSE Nice win two back, but this is a tough spot and he was 40-1 against a couple of these last time out. Longshot.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 8-4-1-3
H Horse Comment
1 SIR CARY’S Z TAM I think this horse will not only be a factor in this elimination, but will get a big piece of the Final. Poised for a big effort.
1A SIR RICHARD Z TAM His form just has not been there so far this year and despite the good draw, he would be a surprise to me.
2 SOMEPLACE SPECIAL Stepping way, way, up in class here. He has some speed to him, but this is asking a whole lot of him.
3 JOHNY ROCK He likes this track and I think Miller will be aggressive with him in this spot. Could easily see him hitting the ticket.
4 SUNSHINE BEACH He looked really good winning at Mohawk last week and he is in excellent form. New pilot for this race. Very tough.
5 RESISTANCE FUTILE He looked like the Resistance Futile of old and just in time to enter his biggest race. I think he makes the Final.
6 LONEWOLF CURRIER I liked him earlier in the year, but he has tailed off and his regular pilot isn’t making the trip to drive him, either.
7 ROCKIN AMADEUS The Breeders Crown Champ is not coming into this is the best form, but we know the talent is there. Cannot dismiss.
8 BEACH MEMORIES Always like to see a horse peaking at the right time and this gelding might be ready to take that next step. Top pick!
9 ODDS ON EQUULEUS Things did not go right in Canada, but if Odds On Equuleus shows up, he is the best horse. Such a tough call.
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 7-2-3-4
H Horse Comment
1 MY LADY DAY ($75,000 – LEX-SEL) Showed good early speed upon debut. Just needs to finish her mile a little better. Can improve.
2 FIYONCE ($20,000 – HBG) I thought she would race better last time. Still think there is some talent here and am expecting better.
3 BOXED CHOCOLATES ($11,000 – LEX-SEL) She was OK last time and I like the progress she is showing. Bettors will like Tetirck up.
4 CUT A DEAL ($25,000 – LEX-SEL) Would have liked to see her pace home a little bit better last time. Might improve 2nd time out.
5 HIGHLAND ROCKSTAR ($12,000 – LEX-SEL) That was a tough trip for a horse making her first lifetime start. Watching closely here.
6 WITHMEWITHOUTME (Homebred) Showed much improved speed last time at Gaitway, but she needs to go much faster here.
7 IDEAL HELEN (Homebred) She looks like the real deal. What an electric turn of foot she showed last week. Clearly the one to beat.
8 NIKITES (Homebred) She showed some promise last time out and I liked the move she made. I will be watching here very carefully.
12 Twelfth Race Entries
Picks: 1-6-2-10
H Horse Comment
1 SOUTHWIND TERROR Clear-cut favorite here off a monster mile by this late developing three year old. Will be awfully tough to beat.
2 ROCKAHOLIC Now 0 for 13 on the year but he continues to pick up checks. I think we can expect a similar result in this spot.
3 SEEK THE DRAGON Winner of that last mile raced in The Meadowlands Pace Elimination earlier. This is a softer spot. Has a chance.
4 PADRE MANUEL Stepping up in class here although the winner of that last mile is a nice horse. Still think he is in tough. Plus, 0 for 20.
5 ONLY THE LONELY Consistent, that is for sure and he has the perfect post. I can see him working out a trip and landing a share.
6 ROCK ICON Out-raced his odds last time and I thought that was a good effort. He fits better in this spot and might threaten the chalk.
7 TROON Form has been spotty. I remember thinking highly of him early in his two-year old season, but he will need to improve here.
8 REGAL MAC Raced well last time but this is going to be a much more difficult spot. I think he is up against it in here. Longshot.
9 STALLONE BLUE CHIP Just never in the race last time and while I think he is better than that, I would be surprised if he won this.
10 LETS ROCK TOGETHER Steadily improving, but he has to make up 3 lengths on the favorite and overcome this wide post. Tough task.
13 Thirteenth Race Entries
Picks: 5-8-2-7
H Horse Comment
1 LIFESONG Not a bad qualifier, but typically I want to see a start off this long a layoff and just one qualifier. Just 25 starts for the 7YO.
2 ELUSIVE REWARD Raced respectfully in The Caramore and this looks like a good spot for him. I think he has to be left in the mix.
3 ALA CARTE BILL Gets a better draw, but he is not the fastest starter and is likely to have too much to do late in this mile.
4 BENNS SHOTGUN Form at Harrington just has not been sharp and he is only 1 for his last 32 as well so I will be looking elsewhere.
5 ESPRIT DE KAYJAY A Merits a long look in this field as he is dropping out of The Caramore Final. I think we see speed tonight. Tough.
6 CC RACY Gets a good post that could set him up with a nice trip, but he will need to be better as well. Hopes to earn a minor award.
7 BRAVE ALEX SEMALU Qualifier wasn’t bad and he was facing better than this the last time we saw him. Worth including on tickets.
8 AVENUE HANOVER Getting some serious class relief and everyone is going to see the driver change to Callahan. Major player now.
9 WHITTAKER Racing himself into shape and seems to be on the improve. He will have to pass quite a few in the stretch, though.
10 MASTERMAKER Recent form is just not sharp and now he draws the widest post without any speed. Looks like a longshot.
