1 First Race Entries
Picks: 4-5-8-2
H Horse Comment
1 HOWE’S MAGIC Now 1 for 11 and while I like the speed he showed in that QUA. I don’t like the fact that he came home in 31.1.
2 HE’S GOT MUSCLE Made a break in his debut. Note that he took a lot of money in that race. Price will be short and he is a risky play.
3 ZOLI He has trotted faster than many of these, but he has been beaten too far to really gauge those races. Still a longshot.
4 GLISTER HANOVER Gets the call as the favorite in a head-scratcher to start the card. His race on 4/19 wins this event. Major contender.
5 BAS HANOVER Added the trotting hobbles and showed staunch improvement. That’s interesting. I would not ignore this barn!
6 JUST CHOCOLATE Now 0 for 10 and managing to earn minor awards against lesser at Freehold. This will be tougher. Longshot.
7 GRONKOWSKI Had not shot from post 10 last time, so I guess he is a candidate to improve. That said, he is still a longshot in here.
8 THE FRANCHISE Never saw the pylons last time, so that race wasn’t that bad. Loses Tetrick, but it is hard to dismiss him in this spot.
9 SWIFT WARRIOR I like that Callahan gets the call, but this horse has made breaks in each of his last 3 pari-mutuel starts. Tough call.
10 JAIPUR His qualifier at Philadelphia wasn’t bad, but he made a break at Freehold last time. Leaves me with mixed feelings now.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 7-3-2-8
H Horse Comment
1 A AND G’S DESIGN Added Lasix last time, but made a break at the start. Recent form has been dull. Callahan chooses off. Longshot.
2 CULT STATUS She has burnt some money in both of her first 2 starts. The price will be short once again. Make note, she is 0 for 8, too!
3 MAGNA BLUE CHIP Most likely to upset Cult Status, although this filly’s price won’t be great either. Rounding into form. Very dangerous.
4 JUS ONE KISS Sent off at 94-1 from the pole and did not factor last time. It is hard to consider her off that last mile. Longshot.
5 LIZ’S LIL K K I liked her last week and she got rough on the turns again. I am off her bandwagon until she shows me a better gait!
6 MC GILLACUDY-HENRY Mare is now 1 for 37. Throw out her last race from post 8 at Yonkers, but she still looks like a longshot here.
7 ACQUAVELLA I always believed this filly had some ability and this barn is going well. I will take a shot with her at a decent price.
8 BETTOR’S BABE Her race on May 3rd was not bad here and she has followed that up with 2 more good efforts. Must be considered.
9 LOOKOUT STOKK ZONE Now just 1 for 24 and her form has gone in the wrong direction. I need to see some improvement.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 8-2-4-3
H Horse Comment
1 VARIETY GIRL Barn is now 0 for 35 and her recent form is not that sharp. I will wait for some signs of improvement from this filly.
2 TO THE GOOD LIFE She was OK last week behind a filly that is a Hambo Oaks contender. This field is softer and she looms a contender.
3 PEACEFUL EZ FEELIN This filly has never raced back to her early baby races last year. This field is lighter and she is a fringe player.
4 MASSMANIAN DEVIL She raced pretty well last week, and despite Lachance choosing off, I think this filly has some upside at a price.
5 FANCY FERN YANKEE Beaten 20 lengths by the superstar To Dream On in that qualifier. Hard to get a good read on that. Tricky.
6 PLEASING FORM Not a bad first lifetime start and she figures to improve in start number two. Still think a minor award is her ceiling.
7 MERGATROID I like the improvement she showed last time. While she is moving up, she faced colts last week, too. Watching closely.
8 DÉJÀ VU TOO Off her runner-up try in The Simpson, she is the filly to beat in here. On paper, she is just the fastest horse in the race.
9 SHEENA’S SHADOW Her race at Lexington last year showed that she has talent. A little concerned that she broke with the hobbles off.
10 SUZELLE HANOVER Bad break last week and now gets stuck on the far outside. She is a player if she trots, but that is a big IF.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 2-6-3-4
H Horse Comment
1 ORANGE BIGI Mare is getting some class relief, but her last start just doesn’t look good. I will be watching for further improvement here.
2 MISS CONNOR This mare was godo two starts back but made a mistake last week. Gets Tetrick this time and I expect to see speed.
3 BIG SKY BATS Threw in a clunker last time, but her other form was good. Note the 15 runner-up efforts compared to just 5 wins.
4 MARCUS BI Wasn’t great, but wasn’t terrible last week. I maintain this horse needs everything his way to win. Using underneath a bit.
5 STUDY AS A HALL Improved mile last time, but against far softer than this. I will watch a start, but I do note the presence of Pierce.
6 FOUNTAINBLEAU VOLO He is the favorite off his last mile and he should win. That said, that 0 for 14 mark is a bit glaring. No value.
7 CELEBRITY HALL Did not show much last time. But, that was a 1:52.4 mile behind a horse that would be 1/9 in here in Beer Summit.
8 DELANO Once was thought to be a Hambletonian contender last year. Since then, he is just not the same horse. Major class relief.
9 BUZZ BOMB Not a bad effort last time, but it is worth noting that race was won by a 45-1 longshot, so I am a little skeptical. Still using.
10 SOUTHWIND CORNELL I’ll admit, I have no idea what to do here. I can see him winning by 3 and I can see him breaking at the start!
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 4-8-1-7
H Horse Comment
1 SPECTATOR K Catches a tough field here, but he raced well behind a sharp winner last time. Might offer some value in this field.
2 B L CLASS ACT Just did not get involved in the same race that Spectator K is coming out of. Still, he won in 1:54 on 5/17. Needs best.
3 SOAPY SAP Sometimes she takes money here and when she does she is usually good. Just not sure this is that kind of spot.
4 CREATINE This is a colt with a very bright future. Liked the qualifier he is coming out of and he raced very well at Lexington last year.
5 CAMERON CHIP Her belated rally has not been as explosive, so she has been earning mostly minor awards. Don’t see more here.
6 GO TAPAIGH He is a wild card because of the connections and the fact that this gelding has ability. Still, will he trot? I will be watching.
7 TIGER’S TOO GOOD Other than the break, this gelding has been in pretty good form. He is getting tested for class now. Offers value.
8 HELIOS He doesn’t always win, but he seldom puts forth a bad effort. Catches a decent group here, but he is a major contender again.
9 WALDORF HALL Gets more class relief and one of these nights, he will jump up and win. Not sure that is going to be tonight though.
10 AEQUITAS See how Fountainbleau Volo did earlier. That said, this is a significant step up in class so I have mixed feelings here.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 7-8-4-2
H Horse Comment
1 CINDEROSA Mare has been facing fields that are a little bit better than this. Concerned that her form has gone the wrong way, though.
2 SANGAAL She was finishing well on 5/17 for Ryder. Gets a patient driver that fits her style here. I will be using underneath in exotics.
3 LIGHTNING PAIGE Recent form has been good and she is moving up the ladder a bit. Callahan gets a shot with her. Logical contender.
4 SOLID QUEEN Not a bad mile last time and although this field is a bit tougher, she remains in pretty good form. There are things to like.
5 NIGHTLY TERROR Good post for her and she has the speed to be in a good spot here. Tetrick goes elsewhere, though. Tricky call.
6 CHAROLETTES MAGGIE Whipped around the track and beat up on a field that she should have dominated. This will be much tougher.
7 ABROKENART HANOVER Pierce has to go to Nikki Beach here, but this filly has a huge shot in this spot. Slides down off a big effort!
8 NIKKI BEACH Is she the best horse? Yes. But this is a three year old tackling older for the first time. Likely favorite doesn’t have to win.
9 LADY’S ART Also getting some class relief, but Abrokenart was much closer than this filly in that last mile. Will need more to contend.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 8-6-5-7
H Horse Comment
1 BASTILLE Not a bad qualifier and I like that he came home in 27.1. That said, this race came up extremely tough and he is a longshot.
2 ANOTHER AMARETTO Just had too much to do last time and this gelding has a lot of ability. This field is very difficult, though.
3 TEMPLE OF DOOM He raced much better last time and almost out-kicked From Above there. Should offer a much better price here.
4 ZUEREST Coming off a break in a field like this, he is hard to come up with. That said, Poliseno is having a great season here!
5 UPFRONT BILLY He has been facing better, but he hasn’t been good enough to keep Tetrick. This horse has a lot of ability, too.
6 FROM ABOVE He continues to race very well, and he catches a good group. But that was a fine runner-up effort behind Harbor Point!
7 ELLEN’S ISLE Callahan goes here over From Above, which surprised me a little bit. However, this barn just cannot be stopped right now!
8 COCO LINDY Always have been a fan of this horse and at his best I think he is the fastest of this group. Got a good start under his belt.
9 SWAN IN A MILLION He typically races at a higher level than this, but is coming off a break. That makes him a risky play in here.
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 2-3-4-8
H Horse Comment
1 FULL EXPLOSION Did not get involved last time and kicks off a wide open field here. Needs a turnaround and will be a longshot.
2 HOW ‘BOUT A SMOOCH Off that move she made last week, I will give her the nod in this field. Loses Callahan, but gets Tetrick.
3 FEELINGMIGHTYGOOD Raced very well last time and if Lightning Paige raced well earlier, move her up. There are things to like.
4 NUTMEGS CIDER Gets the tepid call as the favorite base on Callahan opting here. Gets away from the 10-hole as well. Contender.
5 RACHEL CUHENDO Mare was OK last week, and while I can see her following cover to get a minor award, she needs more to win.
6 RAIDERS FAVORITE Never made the gate last time and her form has gone in the wrong direction. I will be playing against here.
7 CAROLSTERN She is 0 for 12 and coming out of a race won by a dominant favorite. Still, that field was a bit soft. I am looking elsewhere.
8 SHAKER REI Last week’s effort was not bad at all as Gazzerro put forth a nice drive there. Looks like she can earn a small award here.
9 DYSNOMIA BLUE CHIP I think she is at her best at levels below this and off her last pair of starts, I need to see more from her.
10 JARNAC That last race was better than this, but Callahan goes elsewhere and I want to see a start from her before I can consider.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 2-1-7-5
H Horse Comment
1 PEGASUS BLUE CHIP Gelding is getting some class relief. See how Spectator K did earlier as well. Looks like a logical contender here.
2 CHOCOHOLIC This mare has won here before and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pierce try to steal this race on the lead. Interesting.
3 RINGSIDE LAURYN Really felt like she had no excuse last week. Now Callahan opts off as well. I will be siding against in this field.
4 A FORTUNE’S LEGACY Her last three starts have not been good and her record stands at 0 for 15 this year. I am playing against.
5 S J BETTER DAYS Gelding has been facing better and this class drop might wake him up a bit. Inclined to toss on some tickets.
6 PERMANENT JOY Tetrick still opting elsewhere and coming off his last effort, I will continue to look elsewhere for the winner.
7 SCHALOM G Coming off a nice mile. But he got collared by a 45-1 shot in deep stretch in that spot. He will be prominent from the start.
8 BIG SKY ANGELINA Did a good job of keeping up and earning s share last time. I think this will be a bit tougher. Looks like a longshot.
9 MR CANDYMAN Nice qualifier, although I don’t think he beat much in that spot. Needs to stay trotting. Let’s see a start here first.
10 HOMER JAY Doesn’t have any speed, so he figures to get away last in this field and I don’t see him sweeping by this entire field.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 8-9-7-4
H Horse Comment
1 BUBBY JO Woke up with an improved mile, but I am not a fan of the race she is coming out of and Andy goes elsewhere as well.
2 JOANNIEHASAFANNY Has not raced back to that win in her last 2 starts. She gets her 6th different driver in as many races in Tetrick.
3 DE VINS GIRL Makes her way to the bottom level, but her recent form is dull and Callahan choose to go elsewhere. Leaning against.
4 MISS SAND CREEK She was Ok last week, passing a few in the stretch. She will need to stay closer in order to contend for the win.
5 CAROLSIDEAL Not a factor from post 10 last time and with the move inside a bit, she figures to be more involved from here.
6 CHEYENNE PATTI I do not like what I have seen from her in her last 2 starts. Moving back to the C-2, I suppose she can be better.
7 NUTMEGS YANKEE She has speed and I think her road to the lead is not that difficult here. She just needs to finish her miles better.
8 IF I DIDN’T CARE Showed good improvement in her last start, but I would prefer to not see this mare on the lead. She has a big shot.
9 SUPERSTAR DREAM She continues to be very sharp and it wouldn’t shock me if she guns out of here. One of the major players.
11 Eleventh Race Entries
Picks: 6-3-7-5
H Horse Comment
1 ICE MACHINE It has not been a tale of 2 seasons for him. His winter was awesome, but lately his form has been lacking. A longshot here.
2 HOT SHOT BLUE CHIP Fell into his bad habits last week. A body full of talent, but a mind full of immaturity. He can win at any moment!
3 MARKET SHARE 2012 Hambo Winner has looked spectacular in his qualifiers. Appears fully cranked and ready to go for his 4YO season.
4 UNDERCOVER STRIKE Endured a tough trip last time and made an unfortunate break. I think there is a big race with his name on it.
5 BEATGOESON HANOVER Here is the best older-trotting mare racing right now and she is razor sharp. Not sure she can win this, though.
6 GUCCIO It was great to see him flying to the finish again last week. He just needs to stay closer on the turns, because he can flat out fly!
7 HARBOR POINT Finished full of trot last time while diving to the pylons and rallying boldly. He is a prime contender in this field again.
12 Twelfth Race Entries
Picks: 2-8-7-9
H Horse Comment
1 SNOWY FINN Steps up off an improved effort against lesser. Now 0 for 15 on the year and 3 for 103 lifetime. Hard to endorse in here.
2 CAVEAT EMPTOR His qualifiers have been up and down, but you have to like that 27.1 final quarter. He stands out in this field.
3 BIG SKY GOLD COIN Gelding is 0 for his last 38 but has shown some improvement in his last 2 starts. Still. I need to see more from him.
4 TRAVELIN PREACHER Has been struggling in the Amateur Series recently and based on his recent form, it is hard to recommend him.
5 BLAZIN DELORES Just 1 for his last 46, so it is hard to have much confidence on the win end. Recent form says he can hit the ticket.
6 RINGSIDE WINNER That last race wasn’t that bad as he was very wide on the last turn. If he can stay closer, he can sneak onto a ticket.
7 REGION HALL His most recent effort makes him a major contender in this field. I expect we will see speed again. Logical contender.
8 CULTURED PEARL Tough trip last week and despite Pierce choosing off, I can see this mare giving a better effort in this group.
9 TWEED No shot while parked from post 8 last time at Freehold. Prior effort was sharp. He is an interesting value play in this field.
10 PIERRE LAVEC If he can race back to that effort on 5/4 at Tioga, he can be a factor in here. Not thrilled with this wide draw, however.
13 Thirteenth Race Entries
Picks: 6-3-1-5
H Horse Comment
1 LEMON DROP HALL Kept up and towed along for a share last time. The driver change to Tetrick is likely to attract plenty of attention.
2 GETONTHEWAY Not a bad effort last time coming out of the same race as ‘Lemon. Just 1 for 15 on the year. Not sold on a win though.
3 IN KENNY’S HONOR There are races where he looks like he can be very effective. This is one of those races. Could be the one to beat.
4 LORD OF THE BLING His form has gone in the wrong direction and Pierce has opted to go elsewhere. Looks like a longshot for now.
5 BIG PUFF DOGGIE Might have needed that start off the sick scratch. An improved effort is a possibility at a decent price. Using a bit.
6 L M XKR Loomed boldly last time, but flattened out in the stretch. This field is a little softer and make note of the driver change, too.
7 WILDRIDGE SAM Ships in from Hoosier, but has not raced in 3 weeks. He has won here before, but I will likely watch his first start.
8 GO GO RAIDER Coming off a scratch and a 3 week layoff. Has been facing better for much of the year and must be left in the mix.
9 CR FIXED ASSET His recent form at Freehold doesn’t thrill me and I need to see more than that last qualifier. Siding with others.
10 THE GOAT His lone win this year comes at the nw2 level at Freehold. This is a tougher spot. Plus, he is likely coming from last.
