Race Reviews For Thursday, March 14, 2013

1 First Race Entries
Picks: 2-8-5-6
H Horse Comment
1 RINGSIDE NGUYEN Shows a good race at this level at Freehold. But, that was a 2:04 mile. Clearly will need to be much faster tonight.
2 GOTTHEMUSICINYOU Exits a strong qualifier. The runner-up is a high-end B-type trotter. Miller’s choice must stay trotting here.
3 BRISSOT Stayed close early in that last mile before tiring in the stretch. Just 1 for 26 in his career. More needed in the lane again.
4 CAMP SPEEDY Yet to show a race that would warrant consideration here. Retains longshot status until signs of improvement.
5 KEYSTONE COCOA Took surprising early money last week and raced just fair. Mare has a right to improve in her second start.
6 MATCH PLAY Won a baby race here last year, but connection stopped on him after one start. Hobbles added this year. Has a chance.
7 DUSENBERG Exits the classified races, so this is a default move down in class. Has the same wins as the rest of the field combined.
8 BULL SPREADER Stakes placed filly from 2012 shows a decent qualifier and might just have more ability than the rest of these. Tough.
9 AMARCORD Did not get off to a fast start last time and now moves outside in this field. That 1 for 36 mark is a concern as well.
2 Second Race Entries
Picks: 2-6-7-4
H Horse Comment
1 THE REAL DION Did not factor in the first leg. Gingras opts elsewhere as well. Needs to find his best Dover form to be a factor here.
1A SOUTHWIND MILO Raced pretty well from well back last time. Another difficult draw and is likely to make another belated bid again.
2 THE ENCOUNTER Has the most upside to improve. Driver change to Tetrick. Came from an impossible spot last time. Things to like.
3 CULLENS BLUE JEAN Shows a pair of decent races at the C-2 level. Did not show same speed last time. Must step things up here.
4 IN KENNY’S HONOR Stayed in and did not make much of an impact in leg 1. Catches several of the same foes here. Will need more.
5 TROUBLE HANOVER Showed speed last time, but could not last as he tired through the rest of the mile. Just 2 wins the last 2 years.
6 HOPSKIPANAJUMP Big mile off the claim as his new connections had him ready to fire. Looms very tough to beat right back here.
7 LAGUNA BEACH Aggressively handled last week and had a reason to get tired in the stretch. Can contend with a better trip.
8 CHEYENNE UMBERTO Could not get involved from far back last time. Starts from a wide spot and likely will have much to do.
3 Third Race Entries
Picks: 5-7-8-9
H Horse Comment
1 BALTIMOR AS Moved down out of a classified race to this nw2 event. Draws inside. Likely will try to tow along and earn a share.
2 RAPID ASCENT Making his second race back off the layoff. Will he stay trotting? He is a risky play until he shows he can stay flat.
3 WILD SMILE Bet down substantially last week and although he disappointed as the favorite, he raced well. Looms a contender again.
4 STONE COLD CASH Has one qualifier off the long layoff and it was marginal. Filly might need a start before considering here.
5 CORLEONE HALL Seemed to finish with some interest last time, but that was a step in the right direction. Further improvement possible.
6 IDEAL REVENUE Last race at Dover was better, but this figures to be tougher. Dover shippers have struggled a bit here. Waiting.
7 MISS CONNOR Exits a stronger race than this and that wasn’t a bad effort. Expect speed here and this mare will be a major player.
8 DIPIETRANTONIO Have similar feelings to Miss Connor here. Racing against better. She doesn’t have the speed of that foe. Still a player.
9 DAGGET Could not duplicate that win last time. Still, that speed will make him formidable despite the wide draw. Pace factor at the least.
4 Fourth Race Entries
Picks: 5-7-6-4
H Horse Comment
1 I DO IT MYSELF She regressed in that last start. Draws inside and will try to tow along and earn a share in here. Still, a longshot.
2 ELODIE Returns to the bigger track after an improved effort at Freehold. Mare liked it here earlier. Could offer a sneaky good price.
3 CYCLONE NIGHT N That qualifier at Saratoga was not bad at all. Still she is coming off a four month layoff. Might include in gimmicks.
4 FOX VALLEY SWIFT Moves into the claiming ranks and shows some races against much tougher than this. Wake-up is possible.
5 HARPER LEE Found that B-2 level too tough. This will be more to her liking. Post gives Campbell options. Many things to like here.
6 PATSYS LUCK She was rolling late in that mile. Can she stay closer from this better draw? If yes, she will work out a very good trip.
7 KIMMY Continues to race well and this is Tetrick’s choice of three in here. She has speed and can close. Nice combination to have.
8 CHEYENNE PATTI Surick has this mare peaking right now. Will likely have to come from last, but she will be passing mares late.
5 Fifth Race Entries
Picks: 5-3-1-8
H Horse Comment
1 CC MISTER C Raced to his odds at this level last time. Obviously, he will need to step things up, but I can say that for several of these.
2 TUSCAN LINDY Continues to struggle at this level. This particular race came up a bit light, but I need to see more from him first.
3 JULIA’S WAY Made a break trying to leave from post 10. I will forgive that. Her effort 2 starts back will get the job done here. Tough.
4 BIG SKY ANGELINA She has won here before, but her recent form is marginal. Toss out that last interference break. I expect better.
5 CITY KID Recent form is better than most of these and Tetrick will have options from this post. I think he will be very tough in this spot.
6 CROWN TIME MCJESS Gelding has a tendency to go off-stride and I am not seeing enough from his recent form to consider here.
7 SOME KINDA SPUNKY Yet to show me a race that will make him a contender so far this year. I will be watching for signs of improvement.
8 COUNT SPEED So here is the question, are the off-tracks contributing to his breaks? If he catches a fast track, maybe he stays flat.
9 HOWMUCHUBENCH Bad break last week although he was probably getting tired at that point. Showed good speed in that mile, though.
10 CASH MCCOY Never made the gate last week, but is still Miller’s choice here. Post makes things tricky. Long way to come from here.
6 Sixth Race Entries
Picks: 7-5-6-4
H Horse Comment
1 BRISTLE RIDGE BOB Had no chance last week. Moves way inside and I think that alone will attract some play. Still needs to be better.
2 BLADE RUNNER He continues to race well here and this post should keep him closer. It is all about the trip with this gelding.
3 MAKE IT BRIEF Moved aggressively to the lead last time before tiring in the stretch. I think he has gone off form at the wrong time.
4 PJ LUCKY Added Lasix and raced OK last time. The post improvement should help and there are some things to like in this corner.
5 TAMAYO Somehow he escaped at nearly 6-1 last week. Bad news, that price is long gone. Either way, he is a legitimate threat to repeat.
6 CANE RIDGE Disappointed as the favorite last time and now catches the much tougher division. Expect speed once again. Contender.
7 CAMBASSADOR Went off a ridiculous 2/5 last week. He won’t be that price again and he can win this race. Now, may provide value.
8 MARKET FORCE Continues to struggle this year and I cannot recommend playing him until he shows some improvement.
7 Seventh Race Entries
Picks: 4-7-3-9
H Horse Comment
1 THE GOAT This is technically a move up in class and given that, off his last mile, I have a hard time recommending him now.
2 ACRYLIC HANOVER Recent form is suspect and I am yet to see an effort this year that would make him a contender in this field.
3 LILSHARKSHOOTER Raced well last time and now he will try the bigger track. He seems to have speed. Not sure he can carry it.
4 PEDRO ISLAND Figures to take a ton of tote action here. Moves to an ideal post and raced well from a tough spot last week. Chalk.
5 BLUE CLAW Still cannot trust him to win even with this move down in class. That being said, he figures to be a contender for exotics.
6 FORENSIC Z TAM I thought he would race better on the move down in class last time. Not sure what to expect this time around. Tricky.
7 HE’S A BEACHBOY Shows a pair of good tries at this level and he has speed as well. Gingras’ choice is a logical contender for the win.
8 ALLAMERICAN CHIEF Still doesn’t seem to have reached his A-game off the long layoff. I will continue to watch and wait.
9 TROTTOWN KING Beaten only ¾’s of a length against better a few start back when racing here. Off that mile, he is a legit player here.
10 SKY TANTRUM His form has gone entirely in the wrong direction. He has no early speed and has the worst of the draw. Not for me.
8 Eigth Race Entries
Picks: 4-3-2-5
H Horse Comment
1 L M XKR This is the first time we raced this level in 2013, so it’s hard to gauge how much of a move up this really is. Still, form has been off.
2 INTEGRITY Raced very well in his return to The Meadowlands as he continues to be in solid form. Looms a logical player in this group.
3 FOUR STARZ TWINS Just shook free too late as I think he was best in that field. He figures to be tough right back. Major contender.
4 SHELLYSBLOCKBUSTER Only one race from post 8 at Freehold can be considered “dull.” Many Lachance horses have been in the mix.
5 MANOFLEISURESUIT Wire to wire last time at Yonkers but was disqualified for a pylon infraction. Barn seems to be improving a bit.
6 AB’S ATTACK Form still has not been sharp and although this is a slight move down in class, I am not sold on a return to good form.
7 MICHAEL’S MARVEL Has picked up an occasional check so far this year, but is yet to show something that warrants win consideration.
8 RED STAR TOMAHAWK Recent form hs been better and he raced well last time right here. Expect a similar cover trip from here.
9 MOVE ON Continues to race well but now moves to the outside and will need all of his speed from here. Not quite sold on a three-peat.
10 NEW RELEASE Has raced OK in his last few starts, but now has the widest draw and I would be surprised if he won from here.
9 Ninth Race Entries
Picks: 8-3-4-9
H Horse Comment
1 AX MAN Again, Tetrick opts elsewhere. But Harmon got along just fine with him last week. I would recommend including in some gimmicks.
2 WHATNBLAZES In certain spots he has raced OK, but I am not sure this is one of those spots. Offenberg will need him to step up.
3 BABY BLAZE Showd good speed and stayed flat last time. That’s a plus. If he can build on that effort he is probably the one to beat.
4 STARGLOW HALL Raced great last week and almost got there. He faces a couple of those same foes and figures to be tough again.
5 SAM’S HONEYBEE His races just do not appeal to me as I would need to see some improvement before I can consider. Longshot.
6 NEW YORK’S FINEST Came from far back to earn a share of the purse last time. Now draws better and he can do the same.
7 BUZZ BOMB Worth noting the final quarter of that qualifier. Another that we must ask, can he stay trotting? If he stays flat, he contends.
8 CRYPTO MAN Moves down off more than a decent effort against a better group. Has the speed to overcome the draw. Figures to be tough.
9 RINGSIDE LAURYN Another with speed and that is dropping in class. If she can race back to that 2/22 effort, she will be very tough.
10 WEEKEND VACATION Never made the gate last time and now draws the far outside. Doesn’t have the speed needed to overcome that.
10 Tenth Race Entries
Picks: 2-7-3-4
H Horse Comment
1 ARIANE HANOVER Allard goes elsewhere and based on this mares previous efforts, I expect her to tow along and try to earn a share.
2 CHARTREUSE HANOVER Those are back to back solid efforts and one of these nights, she will jump up and win. Can happen here.
3 HERE AGAIN She will take money on the move down in class and rightfully so. If she can build on her last mile, she will be tough.
4 LET’S GO HIGHER Another getting to slide down the class ladder. She will need to come from off the pace. That can work here.
5 SOUTHWIND LAVANDA Making her first start in 4 months off a pair of marginal qualifiers. I am guessing she needs a start now.
6 IF I DIDN’T CARE Just doesn’t seem to have found her best stride this year and I will need to see some improvement before considering.
7 LOOK ANNIE HALL She continues to make positive strides and on this move down, with her speed. She figures to be a contender.
8 WHIRLWIND Added Lasix for that last start and she figures to build on that effort. I am inclined to toss her on the bottom of my tickets.
9 JOANNIEHASAFANNY Shows some decent races and moves to a new barn. Still, I will need to see a start before I can consider.
10 CAROLSTERN She will have to come from last and based on her recent form I am betting against that working out here. Not sold.
